| Help! Hootie's pad on her foot is torn and she's limping!! What should I do about it? Should I put something on it and wrap it up or should I just leave it alone??? We went on a long walk this morning on an asphalt road and she sprinted the whole time so I'm sure it happened then. Poor little girl. She keeps licking it and I feel so bad for her. I'm not letting her walk on it. If she has to potty, I pick her up, take her outside, set her down on the grass, and pick her up and bring her back in when she's done so she doesn't have to walk on it. Is there anything else that I can/should do for it?? |

| No, it's not bleeding at all. It never did bleed any that I saw. A thin piece on the top of the whole pad on one of her toes is peeling off. It's barely dangling there. It's real thin and it's not bleeding, but I know it's hurting her. Should I wrap it even though it's not bleeding? What should I wrap it with? |

| do you have any "bag balm"? If not you can find it at almost any drugstore. It's petroleum based so I would apply it liberally, then cover with a guaze pad and maybe wrap it lightly in some gauze or flexible tape. (the kind of tape that sticks to itself and not her fur) You could also use Neosporin or something similar. I'm sure she'll be good as new in a few days. Remember to keep changing daily and check for any infection.

| I wouldn't use just plain Vaseline.....bag balm has a "healing agent" in it. Try the Neosporin or similar product....even though there's no blood it still has a risk of becoming infected because of where it is.

| How's she doing today, still limping? This may sound weird, but have you ever had a tear at the base of your pinky toe, where it meets your foot. I used to get them all the time at high school dances when dancing barefoot, I wonder if this is what it feels like to her. Your probably thinking... I have no idea what this broad is talking about... but that's what it made me think of. I hope she's doing healing quickly.

| Hey guys. Hootie is doing really great today! She's not limping anymore. She even begged to go with us when we were taking Lamar on a walk but she had to stay here and heal. But she's doing great today. Thanks everyone for the advice! |

| OH good to hear - glad Miss Hootie is getting better! Poor little girl. I had to stop and check M&M's pads today since everyone has been having problems. They look good but I may have to keep an eye out now since it is SOOOO hot out already!!

| So glad she's all ready to rip and run again (no pun intended) Your smart for giving her a rest for a few days. Glad she's better.

| I looked at her paws closely last night and it looks like that piece of the pad that was coming off is re-attaching itself to the pad and that's why it isn't hurting her a badly. The pavement is so hot out that I'm probably going to have to find some other form of exercise for the yorkies this summer besides long walks. |
