| ringworm help Ok so the vet informed it was ringworm....so i immediately began treatment, bleached everything, wash Jazz regularly (jacksonville has a horrible smell anyway)......to make a long story short Jazz finished all of his oral meds, ive been doing those dreaded lyme dyp baths and no improvement. Im really starting to wonder? no one in the family has came down with ringworm, and im sort of a neat freak anyway so im constantly cleaning. I have even tried the holistic approach with apple cider vinegar, now im doing the clomatrizole (for ringworm) Does anyone else have suggestions, I want so badly to take him to the groomers but I don't want to risk infecting someone else's pet. His coat is beautiful and he doesnt have any hair loss and its been 2 months of treatment....... |

| Two months of treatment and no inprovement? I would go for a second opinion. I know that ringworm is hard to get rid of but with proper treatment you should see results by now. Good for you that no one else has picked it up. Your really being careful and that is so very impotant. Think about a second opinion. Good luck, |

| Unfortunately, I have had LOTS of experience with ringworm. My little Timmy had it for nine months. We tried just about everything...dips, internal meds and the lotrimin topically. Evidently, ringworm is particularly difficult to get rid off in Yorkies. We have just now gotten it under control with Lamisil - given in the liquid form, as well as topically. It has been quite an expensive undertaking at $100 per cycle/month. Please pm if you have any other questions. |

| The only thing I found that got rid of ringworm is tea tree oil -- and it got rid of it fast. How this helps. |

| Demodex? Looks like ringworm but a skin scraping will test for mites. Dips? What bothers me with dips is that their genitals are involved in the process. Extremely toxic and also wonder if thyroid may be the problem.

| Oh dear hopefully i can be of some help Baci came home with ringworm and we didnt know it. He was tested positive after we found a dry spot on his skin. It seemed like dandruff and rough, no hair in the spot but because of all his other hair we didnt see it right away when we bought him. I, like you, am a neat freak. Especially when i found out how easily this gets transfered. We also have a cat and apparently cats are even more sensitive. I thought it was the end of the world, but it wasnt. It took awhile to get rid of. We didnt do the baths though. We have topical treatment and a liquid oral med. What i found though.. which was slowing up the process is when he was first diagnosed when the results came back and he was a puppy, he was only 3.5 lbs. But he was growing every week and we were still giving him the same amount of meds per doctors orders. The liquid medication is based on weight. So if your yorkie is gaining weight, as he should as a puppy, he may not be getting enough medication. Once we went back to the vet he uped the dose and he stopped growing as fast and it was gone after a month or two. please dont take him to the groomers! hope this helps

| BacisMom Great reply and this should help Cocoa. This is especially "icky" for those of us who are "germ freaks".

| Agreed, do not take your baby with ringworm to a groomer...please. Sorry, this is a fungus, I know Lotrimin is used on people, don't have any experience with puppies with ringworm. But it can burn the good skin surrounding the infected spot, so use it with caution. Good luck finding a remedy.

| Yes - Lamisil could be dangerous. And it was the last (and very costly) resort. But he is being monitored very closely and was taking the LOWEST dosage. It is finally gone. Yippee! |

| You guys are the greatest Thank you everyone for your advice, I only use the lotrim once a day on Jazz and in combination with his shampoo he isn't itching. I will take him for a second opinion. The vet did inform about different strains of ringworm, can you tell me where to find the tea tree oil? |
