No...he didn't, now I wish he would've. The infection is gone - but now the area where he scratched all the fur off (and scratched it raw) around his right eye is darker-skinned than the other skin around it. Isn't that odd?

I wonder if I should take him in again. Grrrr I hate not knowing what is wrong with these little guys.

I have the same problem with Zoe...the right eye. The vet told us it's her allergies, she rubbed her right eye raw, it was swollen, and she lost most of her lid hair on that eye. He says maybe it's b/c she still has her dew claws on the right paw and not the left. Gave us antibiotic drops and allergy meds and sent her home. She still continues to paw on the right eye, so wierd.

i really think he should have just to make sure the cornea isn't scratched. If his eye isn't getting any better and/or its getting worse on the stuff that he gave you then i'd go back

dd had the same thing around eyes hair loss and brown skin from rubbing her eyes - that is allergies - since she has been on atopica hair grew back - she also has blackened skin on her back left leg which bugs me but due to allergy and biting at it - looks like a fungus.

allergies are extremely frustrating :(

I think I've been confusing people. His eye is fine now (he's not scratching) - it's just that he had scratched off a lot of hair surrounding his eye (and it was raw around the eye from scratching), the hair is now growing back but the skin in the previously-raw area is now darker-skinned than it was before.

He is still scratching w/ allergies (they both are), but his little eye is great. I'm sorry if this is all confusing! LOL.

Exactly! This makes me think that perhaps in some areas, when their skin is healing - it may turn darker for awhile. Or, you know what I just thought of? Even though Wylie is super light (not my avatar), hair can often grow in on these guys with a darker root that quickly goes light - so maybe I'm just seeing that first re-growth and it's darker....?

Glad to hear he is getting better!! Armani is scratching from allergies too and biting his paws.. man o man poor little guys!

dd back leg has been black for a while and derm said it is a side effect of allergies in the skin and not to worry - i am going next week and will ask again as it bugs me - looks like fungus

she has been have a bad 2 days so now giving temaril p every other day with her atopica until she gets to dermatologist and she can check her out - we bathed her sunday with tropiclean for puppies all natural stuff and not sure if that did it but we had to bath her in ketachlor at 4:30 am yesterday as well to see if it would calm her down

so sad :(

ah i misunderstood then.

glad to hear the eye isn't infected anymore. is he still scratching around the eye or has that stopped too? the dark pigment is a tough call for me to think of what it might be without seeing it.

I used to work for a people dermatologist. Very often the darkening of the area happens for us too. I'm pretty sure that the pigment will lighten back up, but it could take a looong time. It's kind of like when we have a bad scratch or burn. Almost like scar tissue as it's a different color, but it should return to normal over the next 6-12 months, that is, if he didn't scratch it to the point of scarring. Wish I could be more help. Glad he's not scratching as much. There have been lots of dog baby allergies this year.
