OMG! Cali is hurt! I don't know what to do........I just got home from work and I look into Cali's kennel and there is blood everywhere! And she is falling all over the place and quite nfrantic and lame acting. So I rush up to her to see what is the matter and I see she has her collar stuck in her mouth! There are teeth all on the floor, hair everywhere, and she is so wild I can't get it out of her mouth! So I finally get a sane thought through and cutnthe collar off. My poor girl must've had that thing stuck for some time......all of the hair is rubbed off the side of her face (from her probably struggling with it all day) and her face is rubbed red raw!!! I want to cry. I don't know what to do...she isn't crying ir anything. Should I give her a bath and maybe put some Neosporin on it? Ugh, I am just sick. My beautiful girl's face is just a mess.............help us please. |
Oh no!! Poor Cali; that's exactly what I'd do -- clean her up and put some neosporin on her. Also give her vet a call; expecially since she's lost some teeth. Stupid collar!!! :( Keep us posted, let us know she's okay. |
Oh my gosh!!!! Poor thing!! I couldn't believe what I was reading. I would take her to the vet. Did you say she lost her teeth? Is she a puppy? |
I'm praying they were puppy teeth. She's just 7 months. Oh I feel so bad for her. She has no hair where it is all red and raw. I wonder if the shampoo will sting her? God, I wish I hadn't left that dumb collar on. |
I know it is too late for this information, but never put a collar on a yorkie. And I don't even leave a harness on mine when they are at home. If you do use a harness, a cat break away harness would be a better choice. I think I would bath her and treat her wounds. Nesporine would be OK on her face cause she can't lick it off. I hope she is better soon. I can imagine how awful you must feel. |
oh No...holy cow she's lucky she didn't strangle !!! Collars are very unsafe to leave on ....as are harnesses....I don't want you to feel worse but it's better to always have their necks free....Poor baby - I hope she feels better - I'd go for a vet check just to be safe and GET WELL Wishes to Cali |
Oh, I am so sorry this happened to her. I would call your vet. She could have injured her jaw or something on top of everything else. If it were me I would want them to see her, possibly give her something for pain. |

OMG SHIVERS WENT DOWN MY SPINE WHEN i READ THIS...I am sooooooo sorry for poor Cali. I would take her to a vet first and after that give her a bath. You are right...the shampoo will sting her. Tons of prayers coming your way...I hope she'll feel better soon. Please keep us posted. |
feel better little girl! Good thing it wasn't any worse....hugs to you both! |
Oh poor Cali and you! I hope she's feeling better now that the collar is off. Please have your Vet check her just to be safe. Sending well wishes to you Cali!!! |
I am so sorry this happened. I hope Cali is feeling better soon. Hugs |
Poor baby. Hopefully she will feel better tomorrow. |
Oh your poor little girl. I'm so sorry to hear this and she must be quite traumatized, and I sure hope those teeth were baby teeth. I'd have a Vet. take a look at her now. Warm hugs to you and your baby. |
Oh that poor baby, I hate to think about how she must of struggled to get that off her. We dont use any collars or harness on our Yorkies unless we are walking them. But we did that to a small kitten once because she was so little and we used a bell, she also got that stuck in her mouth and become a wild cat. we cut hers off too. Im sorry I hope your baby gets to feeling better real soon. |
Well, I gave Cali a bath and dired her off and was abole to get a clear view of her face. There was so much blood all over her face that I couldn't see what was what originally. Anyway, now that she is clean, I see that she has a line from the opening of her mouth all the way back to her ear that has no hair. It's red and pink. I was able to put a little Neosporin on her (but she fought me, she didn't want me to touch her face). I still had some pain medicine from when she broke her leg, so I gave her a fourth of a pill. She went right to bed after that. I was worried that her jaw may have been injured since she wouldn't let me look inside her mouth (but she never has let me look without a fight, even before this). But, after her bath, she went straight to her food dish and ate her hard food. So that is a relief. I'll see how she is tomorrow and I'll let y'all know. Thanks for all the get well wishes. Both Cali and I need a drink....... |
Poor thing, how scarey that must have been for her. My husband thinks I'm paranoid because I take everything off of mine when I leave them alone. I came in the other day and Sissy had got her toenail tangled in the sticthing on her blanket. I tell you there is so many things that can happen to these babies. |
Poor Cali :( I hope everything is okay |
Cali feel better soon. We all love you.:) |
How is the baby doing? Did you get her to the vet? Loss of teeth sounds like alot of trauma. Hope she is doing much better. |
Checking in on Cali this morning. How is she, so sorry for what she went thru. |
HOW scary for you and Cali! I'm so sorry! I can't stand the thought of her struggle. I hear you about the bell - it would dangerous if Marcel didn't wear a bell (he's 1 pound 10 oz) - he just must have one. I do take his collar off when we're gone, but I can think of a couple times where it was left on and I could've been in exactly the same situation as you. So, you're not alone! |
Oh dear, I just saw this, and hope you both had a restful night and feel better this morning:) |
Poor baby. I hope she's okay! I am with you on not knowing to leave collars and harnesses on our babies. I didn't know that either. I knew not to walk with a collar for fear of collapsed trach, but not that this could happen. I know now. Good luck to you and Cali...hope you're both feeling better. |
Checking to see how little Cali is doing this morning..... |
I hope Cali is alright. i would still take her to the vet to see if shee hurt the inside of her throat anyway. You have learned a hard lesson. That is why the mantra on here is NEVER PUT A COLLAR of a yorkie. |
Im a new member just signed up today (saturday). I have just read this thread and tears have welled up in my eyes, Im so sorry this has happened to Cali, the poor girl. I had a Yorkie once who constantly tried hanging herself by her collar on the garden fence, since then I have never put a collar on my dog when she is home alone or not. It only goes on for walkies. Please keep us informed on how she is I hope everything is ok :( |
Just adding my sympathy and good wishes for Cali. You know, we all do the best we can with the info we have at the time, with our human children and our furry ones...sometimes, though there is an accident and while we feel badly and maybe even learn something, we can't beat ourselves up over it. Give her a tiny (careful!) hug from me and I, too, will be looking for an update. |
Just checking to see how Cali is feeling today. I was really happy to hear she ate her dried food.Still in our prayers. Boo-Boo sends Cali tons of kisses. |
