Poor Chloe is sick
 

Yesterday, Chloe had pooped the wierdest poop. Usually, her poops are pretty hard, and about the thickness of a finger. Well, yesterday, she pooped one that was big and bulbous at one end, then all skinny and loose at the other end. The whole thing was way softer than what she normally poops. I didn't think much of it at first because she had had half of a boiled egg (easter egg) the night before, which she loved and ate up. Since she hadn't had one before, I just assumed she was having a little upset tummy from it. Well, this morning, she did another poop like that. It was still pretty formed, just way softer than usual, so I still didn't really worry about it,

So ever since then, she's had liquid poop. So I took her to the vet. I had to take in a stool sample (omg, how gross!). We got some medicines, one is like pepto bismol and the other is an intestinal antibiotic. The vet said to watch it for now, and then we'll see what happens when the sample comes back (about 2 days). Then she vomited in the car on the way back. She's never been sick before. I'm so worried.

In the meantime, I'm keeping her in the crate. I feel bad, but I can't have her squirting all over the couch and furniture. Even though she's housebroken and goes outside, diarrhea doesn't give much opportunity to get out fast enough to be on the grass.

My poor baby. I know her tummy must be hurting terrible. I just wish I knew what to do to make her feel better.

Does anyone know if we can give pedialyte or anything like that. I don't want her getting dehydrated.

for starters i'd just watch her water intake and if it seems she isn't drinking too much then you can give her pedialyte. ALso you can try giving her ice cubes. This tricks some dogs into drinking water becuase they think their getting food because its crunchy.

Good idea, thanks! I didn't think about that. She LOVES ice cubes. They are a cheap toy for her LOL.

I just got done boiling some chicken and rice to give her. It looks delicious! It's gotta cool right now. I hope she eats it.

I think he said it was flagyl. But she hasn't been diagnosed with anything yet because her lab hasn't come back. I'll look on the bottle when I go back downstairs.

Thanks for all the well wishes. :) :) Chloe seems perfectly normal for now. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't have the diarrhea again. She ate some of her kibbles, some chicken and rice, and some activia yogurt. She's also drinking a little water; not too much though.

Well, Chloe seemed like she was all better, so I figured she had just eaten something that didn't agree with her. I'm bad because I didn't continue the medicine after the first two days. I know, I know.

Well, this morning, the diarrhea came back full force. Then this afternoon, the vet called back with the lab report: giardia.

How in the heck did she get Giardia? :questioneShe's a 100% indoor dog; she drinks the same filtered water we do from a bowl that gets washed everyday in the dishwasher. Even the vet said he can't explain it. He went on to say if she eats poop from someone infected. SHE DOESN'T EAT POOP.

The only thing I can think of is if she got it off the floor in Petsmart. Where else could it have come from? :scratchhe
