Advices from overseas 4 Attachment(s) Hi, If anyone please can help me, give me advises or just anything I would be ever so grateful! I have been looking on Internet about this but have not been able to find anything. The thing I did found was this forum, so that gave me some hope and also of course joy. My problem is my yorkie Lia (Eulalia). She is 8 1/2 month old. In October she broke one of her front legs while she was playing with my older yorkie. Lia have had 4 surgerys and the last one was for 10 days ago. If not this one will help the veterinary has to remove her leg. Next appointment is on Monday 5th March. I would like to hear what all of you have to say about this. If anyone has experience from this matter, or just anything!!! My veterinary has worked for some years in USA and he told me that amputaion was not such a big matter there, when it is about such a tiny york I have. He told me they can live a happy live without pain and do just great with 3 legs. What do you all think about it? Once again, I would like to hear both bad and good answers. I really need help and cannot find it anywhere. Lia is an extremly happy little girl that not seams to be bother at all by casts, bandage, surgery or medicinces. She is very brave! With kindest regards Vivi |
I am so sorry. Have you gotten 2nd and 3rd opinions. I would try everything before amputation. Good luck |
I am so sorry you have come to this. Mimi goes for her surgery tomorrow and I have nightmares about her leg repair. I will check to see if there is any help out there for you. I hope that this surgery will allow her to heal. |
She is precious. Why are the surgeries not working? What is your vet telling you the problem is? I'd definitly get another vet to look at her. Best wishes. |
Thanks for your answers. This vet. is working in Stockholms and probebly Swedens best veterinary clinic. http://www.djursjukhus-sthlm.se/ The reason the bone fracture not is healing is that she is extremly small. He told me that Chihuahua?s often had the same problem. Eulalia?s weight is 3.1 pound if I have used the converter correctly. (1.4 kilo) Last surgery he put in a plate inside the leg wich will have to remain there for the rest of her life. Maybe that will help, at least I can hope. Finally, I am so sorry for my bad english, grammer and spelling. Kind regards Vivi |
Try a search in yahoo for the possibility of finding some information that you may need. It may take a while to read over the group lists. Use this link http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=animal+surgery If you do not have yahoo, just sign up at www.yahoo.com. There is a group list at the left hand side of the page. If you need any further help, just let me know. |
Hi, I'm so sorry your going through this right now. I hope everything works out for the best. I wouold consider getting another opinion. Good Luck!! |
If it were me, I would find an orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion. I'm so sorry for your baby to have to go thru so much. Prayers will go out for her. |
Poor baby! I would definitely take her for another opinion! Amputation would be a last resort. I'll be praying for you and for your baby. (She's beautiful by the way) |

Oh please God bless this baby. I will remember you both in my prayers. |
Hi Vivi Welcome to YT. My little Tia is going through something similar. She broke her leg just before christmas and they operated and put a pin in. It looked okay, but now they are seeing something else and it doesn't look like she hurt it again. I'll be seeing the specialist in a few weeks. Tia is also very small (1.2 kilo's) and he said it is do to her size. Keep us posted as to what happens with yoour baby. I also agree, if there is a specialist close to you, I would seek a second opinion |
Welcome! I am so terribly sorry about your baby. Is the vet speaking of the "growth plate"?? I believe, if I were you, I would seek the advice of another surgeon before I agreed to amputaton. I will be praying for your baby and please, please keep us updated. |
Oh I am so sorry for you both. If your vet recommends amputation, I would definitely ask if there is an orthopedic specialist that you could see for a second opinion. I will be praying that the surgery she has already had will be successful and for you that you may have the wisdom and strength you need to take care of her. God bless you both.:) |
I'd ask for second opinion as well. I've been watching Animal Planet all the time and they do say Dog will live just fine with 3 legs. So if it comes to the worst, your baby will survive fine with 3 legs. But I'll pray for your baby that won't happen!!!! |
