Last year, my daughter's chihuahua who weighed 2lbs at the time, (she lives upstairs in my house with all her furry babies (3) ), got very quiet but busy in her little kitchen and as none of us were paying any attention to him, I realized something was wrong with him when he started running in circles and darting from one end of her apt. to the other. He looked kind of hyper so I picked him up and saw his little belly was bloated and I knew he got into something not good and yes, it was her plastic garbage bag which contained the remains of my surprise anniversary cake which had been topped with very dark chocolate. This was a Cold Stone Creamery cake, if you know what kind of franchise that is....incredibly heavy duty cakes, kind of heart- attack-city kind!
Took him to the vet immediately and he now weighed 3lbs....he had consumed half his weight in dark chocolate!
He stayed overnight as they had to pump his belly and give him IVs. We watched him for the next 6 weeks but he was great the next day when we picked him up! We just couldn't feed him for the day!
Amazing what these pups get into!
PS: To this day, his nickname at the vet's is "The Chocolate Bunny"!:D :aimeeyork |
