worried about my puppy Hi I have a yorkie about 5 months old for the past week she has been weak looking. She does not run around and play like a energetic puppy. She acted like a old tired dog. I gave her some of the Nutri-Cal that my breeder supplied. Last night my husband said she was drooling and walking into things. She seem to be eating and pooping fine. Does this sound like the low blood sugar thing. Help Very worried Shannon :( |
That sounds like hypoglycemia! I have to give Ludo 1 CC of dextrose every morning and night to make sure his blood sugar stays okay. I think you can also give them corn syrup. I would check with your vet! But most smaller dogs do get the low blood sugar! |
Here is a website with a list of signs of hypoglycemia & things to do if your puppy is hypoglycemic http://rnrkennels.datacruz.com/signs...pogltcemia.htm |
thank you so much :) :D |
poor baby - all puppies should be so full of spunk that you almost want them to slow down not perk up ....it sounds like she really needs a vet to look at her and maybe run basic bloodwork..... unless she does perk up from the Nutrical - then maybe that is all it is..... I don't want to be an alarmist but if it were me - I'd have the vet check her out - walking into things is not normal puppy behaviour......and GOOD LUCK !! |
Not to alarm you, but I agree with Villette, and I think you should take the pup to a vet. We had a Golden Retriever that started doing that, drooling and running into things. It turned out very bad for her, hopefully it won't for you. |
If it were me, I would get that baby to a vet right now! Please keep us updated. |

Ditto! I hope that the puppy will be okay. |
Any news?? |
She has a liver shunt. I am getting an ultrasound today to find out if it is on the inside of the liver or outside. If it is on the outside she will need surgery :( :( |
I am sorry to hear about your baby's liver shunt. But on the other hand, I am thankful that you got her to the vet and found the problem in time to do something about it. I pray it is treatable and your little girl recovers quickly! |
Prayers are with you. Have you notified your puppy's breeder? Do you have a contract for genetic defects? Your puppy's sire and dam should not be bred again. Did your puppy have litter mates? The possibility exists that the litter mates may have the same problem. |
Yes I have been in touch with my breeder. She is very good with the dogs. I do have a contract. Yes Lady has 4 litter mates. |
if anyone knows about this liver shunt does anyone know about how $$ I am looking at are we talking 1,000s or 100s? |
