When you can feed her, give her boiled chicken and white rice. It isn't as hard on their tummies.
Bailey was sick for several weeks after Thanksgiving and to give her, her meds I would crush it into her food or put them in a piece of toddler beef or chicken sticks. It was easier then trying to put in down her throat, I thought I would unintentinally hurt her.:(
It is so scary when they don't feel well, because they can't tell you where it hurts.:(
Sending Prayers for a speedy recovery...

she was sick for SEVERAL weeks?? oh i HOPE This done'st go on that long.. it is breaking my heart... did she had diarrhea and puking for weeks?? i had her on the rice and chicken.. but the vet said to stop that and he gave me wet food that is easy on her stomach... she will get that tonight around 8... (i was wrong when i originally said 6 :( ) BUT great news... layla drank some water!!!!!!!!! i know.. baby steps... but she did it on her own AND kept it down! i also managed to force some more chicken broth down.. she went outside to go to the bathroom but barely anything came out.. which must be good. i hope we never go through this again.

Yes, it was awful. She picked up some kind of bug either at the pet friendly hotel we stayed at or when we went into San Franscisco, at the pier I put her in a small patch of grass to go pee. The throwing up was just a few days but the diarhea lasted off and on for several weeks. It was not fun. But she is very healthy now. I just fed her chicken and rice and baby food. We did find out during this time that she is lactose intolerant. I have her on daily lactobacillus cultures now to keep her tummy healthy.
Good Luck and prayers for a very speedy recovery.

wow... i don't know how you got through that! it must have been so tough... i can't imagine how sore layla's bum is... i feel bad for her... glad to hear there are some people out there with experience to help us out :)

when she threw up after you gave her the meds both times were the pills in the puke? how long after you gave her the meds did she throw up? i was just concerned because you said she had really bad diarrhea but then you just took her out and barely anything came out. If she didn't throw up the meds and you gave her more you could be binding her up a bit too much. don't want to have to worry about doing a total 180 on her

We have a really great Vet, who helped us out a lot. I would put Bailey in the sink everynight and gently sprayed her bottom with warm water. It would clean her bottom off, but she actually liked it, it probley felt good on her sore rear.
She actually woke me up in the middle of the night once to let me know she had gotten sick and wanted me to bathe her. She doesn't like to be dirty.

Grayson's mom 02-01-2007 02:38 PM

I am soo sorry your baby is sick, I hope she feels better soon, Grayson was vomiting last night and had the runs also. I felt so helpless. He seems somewhat better today and his vet said not to eat for 24 hours. So hopefully when dinner time hits he will be ready to scarf down some dinner!

she threw up within 10 min both times... i am pretty sure the pills were in the first time... the second time... we had a fight to get them down.. so by the time i got them down they were a bit soft.. so i imgine they dissolved rather fast... i'm actually happy to see no diarrhea... her tummy is empty.. nothing left to poop out...

Grayson's mom.. i'm also nervous tonight when i give her supper that she won't be interested... i thought she would have LOVED the chicken broth.. but no.. even tried giving her a bland treat (wafer like) she didn't want it... i hope she eats!!! good luck with your guy! hope this is over fast for the both of us!

marcerella02 02-01-2007 02:46 PM

i was also concerned that she is so tired. i'm sure it makes sense since we sure didn't sleep last night and she is feeling pretty crappy. i felt better when we went outside and she started barking and running at our neighbour.. i guess she isn't too weak or tired :) still has some spunk!

marcerella02 02-01-2007 02:55 PM

well i tried to see if layla wanted any of the soft food the vet told me to feed her... nope... licked it and turned her head... which is werid for layla she LOVES wet food... i'm not giving her the meds if she doens't have food in her tummy... help please!!

kalina82 02-01-2007 04:10 PM

has she pooped lately?

simonandhallie 02-01-2007 04:18 PM

Oh poor Layla, I'm just seeing this! I'm so sorry :(

When Simon would go through his bouts of diarhhea/throwing up I would literally force water in his mouth with a dropper. It wasn\'t fun or easy but I would cuddle with him and open his mouth with my hand and quickly squirt the water in his mouth. Try mixing some of the chicken broth with the soft food and feeding her off of a spoon.

Big hugs to both of you, I know how tired and upset you must be.

marcerella02 02-01-2007 05:06 PM

she has not pooped in a long while... but she has nothing in her :( she had a bunch of water and that came up... but when i put Pedalyte in her.. it stays.. with an eyedropper... kim you are right.. it\'s very very tough... she is uninterested in eating.. except she ate a treat.. .go figure... so i\'m going to try and give her some food like kim suggested... and then give her her meds regardless...if she gets sick at least i can say i tried when i call the vet again in the morning... i feel so horrible... i wish she was better.. but i hope the lack of vomiting and diarrhea is a good sign... but the no eating... i dunno...

kalina82 02-01-2007 05:09 PM

is the food that the vet gave you I/D? if so that\'s basically the same thing as chicken and rice. try making her that. she ate a treat because she is hungry but shes holding out LOL she\'s milking ya. try the chicken and rice. it will be bland on her stomach. only give her a few pieces of chicken. or you can try hamburger meat, but make sure you get all the fat out of it.
