Please pray I just dropped Baby off at the Vets for her spay, teeth cleaning and some teeth removal!! I cried when I left her and cried all the way home and am still crying!! Please pray for her as I am so scared, anxious, and sad!! I really didn't want to leave her!! I feel guilty because I did and when she awakes she is going to be in so much pain knowing I let it happen!! |

Ohhhh hang in there! She'll be fine-it's so hard, but remember that you're doing something that is better for her, and better for you as a pet owner. She needs those teeth out so that they don't cause problems later, and by spaying her (if you're not breeding her) you're reducing the risk of other medical issues later in her life. Keep your chin up, and know that I'm thinking of you and your little one. She'll do great, and you'll get to see her soon. I remember the day I had Emma spayed too, I was so nervous, and I felt so bad for leaving her there! I would not have made it through that day if it hadn't been for the support and kind words of YT'ers. Keep us posted when you hear from the vet on how she's doing. |
Oh, another thing-you might want to pick up a few things before you go and pick her up to bring her home: Soft food because her mouth might hurt after the dental work A syringe to squirt water in her mouth-Emma wouldn't drink for awhile after her surgery A pack of baby onesies-I put these on Emma to keep her warm and prevent her from chewing her stitches, they worked WONDERS! You'll also want to get a little area ready for her when you bring her home. She'll be really groggy, but you'll want her to be in a nice, safe, comfy, warm place where she can recover. |
Thank you Suzy!! I just wish I could be by her side so she won't be scared!! I am so glad to talk to someone who knows how I feel. The double rows of teeth are causing her gums to be inflamed and I know its a must!! She is 3 years old and I am not a breeder so I decided to do that as well. Since she would already be under! I just am so worried! |
Okay I will run to Petco!! She sleeps with me !! Should I find a different place for her to recuperate??? Thanks for the heads up about the items. I am so frazzled I didn't even think of that!! |
I was the same way....I remember it like it was yesterday - I started crying the minute I turned my back to leave.... they do much better than we think they will and I bet she'll be just fine once you bring her home....lots of TLC and nice quiet time and she'll be on the mend before you know it .....and just think of those sparkling teeth all in ONE row - :p that alone will feel so much better for her.... |
Thank you Vee for understanding!! I am trying to calm down over here!! Hey remember the project I was telling you about?? I made a difference !! |
she will be ok..we all cried and our babies got through it. .. i was a coward. i made my mom drop lexi off at the vet to get spayed...and was worried all day.... prayers to your baby |
Thanks Gina!! You were smart to ask your mom to do it! When I left there crying people in the lobby snickered at me and the staff looked at me like I was an idiot!! Leaving her there was very hard!! |
It's unforgettable!! Toto was 8 months ... had to wait for her to reach 2 lbs. and for her permanent teeth so the baby ones could be removed at the same time! She was soooo tiny .... her incision looked huge and we were just beside ourselves. She didn't leave my arms except to potty and drink for about 3 days! :p Trust me, she did much better than we did. Our only problem was trying to hold her back when she began to move around. She hardly paid any attention to her incision, which was a relief for us. She bounced back quicker than we did. I'm sure your little one will be fine ... just get ready for some quiet, quality cuddling. ;) |

I also remember the worry and fret when having Maddie spayed. I made the appointment a couple of months in advance and the closer it got, the sicker I felt. Will they be calling you after the surgery? They called me and I felt so much relief knowing it was over and she was awake. If they don't call you, give them a call and see how things are going. Maddie sleeps with me, but after her surgery, I was afraid she would jump off the bed, so I made her a bed on the floor and slept there too in case she needed anything during the night. I'll say a prayer for your baby and I hope the time goes fast so you can have her back home before you know it. Hugs to you! |
Thank you for your prayers!! I'm still very nervous!! I think I will be nervous when she gets home as well. I am hoping she will eat!! I plan on babying her forever!! |

Oh Connie thank you!! They said they would call at 11:30 when they were done and she was up!! I am so nervous!! I am going to brush her teeth and keep them clean so she doesn't have to do this again!! I have canceled this appointment and put it off for so long!! She is 3 years old and still with baby teeth. I was selfish and afraid!! I think I will make her a bed on the floor also. I don't want to take the chance of her jumping off. Even with the stairs I don't feel right about her trying to go down. Besides she'll come home groggy!! |

You will be surprised how well she handles the ordeal! Our little Jack Russell was the last one I had spayed and my biggest problem was trying to keep her a little subdued so she could heal. She acted like nothing had happened and wanted to go play! Our Yorkie Maggie spent the night but seemed fine the next day. I made sure to lift her for all steps and even carried her out to potty the first couple of times. But then she was bounding around the house like nothing happened that same afternoon we brought her home. So, try not to worry, she will be back with you soon! |

Okay guys got the call!!! Vet said all went well and she is awake!! She said we were lucky to have done the spay as she had fluid in her uterus and that she was at risk for pyrometria!! I am so glad that I didn't chicken out and that we got it in time!! Thank you all so much for waiting with me and comforting me during a very hard time!! Gina some people don't know what yorkie love is like and for that reason the laugh is on them. They are the ones losing out!! I was so shocked to see them laugh! |
hooray!!!!!!!! i told you eveything will be ok.... ok you can relax now.... now she needs to be comforted.... its over, thank god. |
I know and I am so grateful!! You guys are the best !! I can't imagine getting through this without you guys!! I feel so relieved!! I am so happy!! |

Baby is home and doing well. I got the call around 1pm that she was awake enough to come home!! She is doing great and has been giving kisses!! I plan on letting her rest on me for as long as she wants!! Thank you all for getting me through this I could NOT have done it without you all!!! |
I am glad to hear all went well. I would make her a bed next to you on the floor for the next few nights, just in case, so she doesn't jump off the bed..ouch..That's what I did for Bailey. Then in a few days they are running and jumping around, and you are nervous they will hurt themselves:) I just bought another puppy and will have to do this all over again in a few months:( .... |

So glad to hear she's home! Sounds like she's doing well, and that she's happy to be home! I'm so glad you got her spayed when you did-your poor puppy might have gotten sick! :( Great timing! Keep in mind that she'll be groggy for awhile, and then all of the sudden, she'll be hyper again. That's the time you'll want to keep her busy with chewing toys/treats so that she's not tearing around the house and jumping on and off furniture. Keep those onesies on her for 7-10 days (my vet said), and just unsnap them when she needs to go potty. That will keep her from chewing or licking at her stitches. Even if she accidentally pees through one, they're really easy to wash. We ended up using them as pajamas later too! :) Also, many people have had questions and concerns surrounding their little girls having accidents out of the blue after being spayed. It seems common, and she may have them for about a week after the spay. Don't worry too much, and don't be too hard on her. Just keep a pad (if you use them) in the same room with her, or take her outside potty more frequently to prevent accidents during this time. Emma had them for about 7 days, and then stopped. I think it's due to all the muscles down there being moved around during the surgery, and they can't feel that they need to go until it's too late-but that's just my own theory. Good luck and best wishes for a fast recovery! |

I am so glad to hear she is home and doing well! Bless her sweet little heart...and yours too!!! The onesies work great...I used them on Maddie and besides that, they look adorable in them! Maddie and I send get well wishes and lots of kisses to Baby! You mentioned brushing her teeth. Have you heard about Petzlife...Life for Teeth and Brush Away? It is wonderful stuff. The Life for Teeth is a spray...I spray one spray into Maddie's mouth each day. Her teeth were fine when I started, and they are still white and tartar and plaque free. My daughter has Maddie's brother and doesn't use it and you can see the tartar and plaque on his teeth, so I do believe it works. Many yt'ers use it. The Brush Away is a gel and can be used to brush or to just put in their mouths. If you want to read about it or order any, here is the link. It is free shipping...at least it was last time I ordered. http://www.petzlife.com/ I hope you and Baby have a restful night! I'm so glad this is all behind you! *HUG* |

Thank you all for your support during this stressful and frightening time !! I could not have gotten through this without you all !! Your advice and ideas have helped me tremendously!! Baby is doing alot better today !! I love Bailey- I know what you mean about your puppy. I also have a 10 month old yorkie that is next in line!! I am dreading it already!! I did set Baby's bed up on the floor and the first night I slept there with her. I didn't get any sleep!! Suzy- The onesies are working out great!! You are right they look adorable on her. She did have an accident the first day, but I was so grateful to see her potty that I didn't care about the floor!! Connie- I want to thank you for the life for teeth link!! I am definitely getting some!! I want to do as much as I can to keep them both from needing their teeth cleaned. I hate having them go under. I slept more the second night and things are getting better!! |

I am so glad that all went well for Baby and you, you'll be able to catch up on some zzz's this weekend. I'm sure she is running and bouncing around already!:p I see you live in San Antonio, my sister lives there. I love going to visit her and her family, there are some great places to go & sight see there.:) |
Well today she is still wanting to be on my lap. When I put her down to do anything she wimpers! Don't know if that is normal or not. We have a lot of places to visit here in SA. We have the mission trails which is really fun, the alamo, there's the Buckhorn museum, the imax theatre downtown is a must, botanical garden, tower of americas, the market square, everyone does the riverwalk, la cantera mall is the best mall we have, lots of golf courses, natural bridge caverns, a snake farm as well, then theres sea world and fiesta texas if you come during their opening season. You will have loads of fun here and how nice for you to be able to get to see your sister!! I hope that you enjoy your time here. |

[QUOTE=baby03]Well today she is still wanting to be on my lap. When I put her down to do anything she wimpers! Don't know if that is normal or not. QUOTE] Yes, that is normal, she still doesn't feel well. Bailey was out of it for 3 days (that scared me) and then she was up and racing around. It really made me nervous to watch her jumping and playing, I took some of her toys away because I thought she was over doing it.:) She was 6 mo and 3 lbs when I had her spayed. My brother-in-law just finished his training and was hired on permanently for the SA Police Dept, so your streets should be safer now:p |
