Hello all! Thank you so much for your continued support and love. Chuey is doing much better because of it. Dr. said Chuey is doing really well! I was so happy to hear this! I knew it, but needed it confirmed by a pro, you know? She said continue his oral meds for one more week, no more shots. He is eating great and the wobbliness is getting better and better everyday. Other than that, I can just hope that he continues to grow and grow. He only weighs 1 lb 5 oz so he needs to get some meat on him! Dr said he is not going to be very big, but she is not sure just how big he is going to be. Prob less than 4 lbs. So tiny right? I just want to keep him healthy. He tends to shake very easily, cold or scared, or maybe its just doggie drama sometimes, who knows. Anyway, thanks again to all of you. Have a great night! Bye! |
Hey everybody! Chuey is still doing much better. He is not 100% yet, but getting there. He is still a little sniffly and weak. He is walking around a lot more and playing with his toys. I did not realize how difficult this was going to be. I am truely stunned. But with all your good wishes and some intensive care, he's gotten much, much better. I still wonder if I'm feeding him properly. Sometimes I think its' too much, other times, not enough. Well, as long as he's healthy I guess that's what matters. Is there anything else I can be doing for him? Thank you all again for your support. Have a good night. |
Hi Raquel, I'm so happy to hear how well Chuey in coming along  Why do you still feel you should be doing more for him, whats in the back of your mind that's bothering you?? You already went over your feeding schedule with the vet and they said it was good, and Chuey is improving not getting worst....so I say stick with what ever your doing. Sometimes we change things to try and better our furkids, but then we find out that what we were doing could have harm them:( , so right now it's not a good time to try too many changes on him. When he is healthier you can take him out for a run and pizza...lol and if you like I'll come with you ;) |
Racquel - it is so good to hear that little Chuey continues to improve!! Just keep doing what you are doing. Just like people, some days the pups are hungrier than others. As long as he is gaining weight (even if slowly) he is eating enough. If you get a chance, we'd love to see some more photos of the little guy. Continued well wishes to Chuey. Remember that it can take several weeks to fully recovery from kennel cough and pneumonia. And make sure you are taking care of yourself also!!! |
Hey Everybody! Chuey :aimeeyork sends his best from his warm fuzzy bed! Although he is still doing better, we had a minor set back. I noticed that after we stopped the Amikacin antibiotic injections, Chuey started to get nasally again! By the next day, he was sneezing and sounding pretty congested! Well mama wasn't having that! I took him right back to the vet and told them what was going on. Dr said Chuey needed to go back on Amikacin, gave him a shot there, and gave me seven more to give him at home! Here I go again with the shots right? But I'm almost a pro now! I just hate that he hates it though! Poor baby how he screams! I am pretty good at getting the needle in, (its very narrow), and he doesn't cry when I do that. But by the time the medicine is going in, he's feeling that! And he screams, you know how it goes! The Dr. also said to give him one tiny drop of neosenephrine in each nostril to help with the congestion. Tonight was shot number two and he is already sounding better. What a nasty infection to fight! This pneumonia is no joke! It's killing me to see him suffer but I am trying my hardest to get him better. I hate going to the vet! I hate seeing other people suffer over their babies! I just get so sad, and all I can do is pray for them. Thank you all again for your continued support and prayers. Chuey couldn't have pulled through without you guys helping me so I could help him! Much love, Chuey :animal-pa and Raquel :p |

I'm so glad that Chuey is doing better. Way to go, Mommy, on getting him back to the vet. Moms know best;)! He's such a little cutie pie:D! |
breathing difficulties I have a 1.5 lb - 4 month old female Yorkie. She started having problems 3 days after I got her at 8 weeks. She had been given Clavamox, Benedrayl and Alburertol to try. After numerous vet visits and an emergency vet visit, she was put on Zitromax. She seemed to get better. After finishing the medication within 5 days it started again. The local vet said that it was just a fluke that she got better. I changed to a different vet and was in contact with the breeder. It turns out she had the bortedella vacinne that was bad batch and it caused her to have kennel cough. The vet said he doesn't recommend that vaccine for puppies. She is now on Zitromax again ( you have to get it from the pharmacy) and is on a routine of once a day for 7 days and then will be on it 3 times a week for at least a month. I have seen a dramatic difference in the amount of coughing. Hope your is better |
Charlie, Thank you so much for the information. I am really going to need it. Chuey is better, but not very much. I have an appt on Fri but think I have to go back before then. Chuey does not cough much, but that doesn't mean that it is not kennel cough though right? He is still weak and stubles quite often. He is not the same as when I brought him home. He eats like a pig though! He is gaining weight normally, but I wonder how much more he would grow if he wasnt sick. Poor thing. I just don't know what to do anymore. I will PM you and beg some more info from you. Sounds like we are in very similar situations!! Thank you again for your help! |
Hello all! Thank you so much for reading my post. I took Chuey back to the vet again today. He just seemed so sick to me today that I didn't know what to do. He is not coughing as much but has little to no energy, (he peed laying down completely). So dr said finish amakacin (two more shots) and start now with cephalexin (.3 ml 3x a day). He seems better this evening, but he also took in more water than he had the day before. Xrays show improvement and dr said that was good. Blood work showed everything normal and dr said that was even better! I feel better knowing this now, and that his lack of energy is all about his battle with this infection. dr wants me to call with an update on fri. But worry not, Chuey is not missing any meals. Hasn't turned away from food yet. He gained weight, he now weighs 1 lb 8 ozs! yayyy! A pound and half little wonder! Thank you again for all your support and prayers! Chuey really needs them! |
Poor little tyke. Sounds like the doc is right. You'd probably feel weak when getting over pneumonia too! But good work staying on top of things. You never know, and it's better to catch things early if you can. |
Just checking to see how your baby is today.Much better I pray. |
3 Attachment(s) Hello all, How is everybody today?? TGIF right? I had a long week and I'm ready to have a long weekend at home with my baby. Since he's been sick I haven't wanted to leave the house, called in sick a couple times, and slept on the couch every single night! I only slept in my bed when he was in the hospital. We stay in the living room cuz Chu is more comfortable here. He can walk out of his kennel (within his cage area) and play or potty if he needs too. He has his own special carpet I bought him were his cage area is. I think it stays cleaner this way too because we don't walk on it. He has a space heater (from Costco, its awesome!) and an anti-bacterial warm air vaporizer. I am doing everything I can. And its slowly paying off. Chu is eating well and taking in more water (cuz I'm adding more to his food). Tonight is hopefully his lost shot of Amikacin. He is still on the oral antibiotics though. He seems like he's regaining some energy, but very slowly. But he still sounds so congested. However, I think its better that its in his throat (waiting to be coughed-up or swallowed) than in his lungs. And like the xray showed, those are slowly clearing too. So I will keep trying my hardest to nurse him back to health. My husband, Richard and sons, Mikey and Ricky deserve some kudos too. They have helped me with him and put up with my stress. I even asked my mom to come stay with him when I was at work. Chuey hasn't been alone for more than 2 hrs since he's gotten sick. I'm not even in another room. So, I hope he feels all my love and that it gives him strength to fight, fight, fight! Thanks for reading my book here, have a good night and thank you again for all your support and prayers! (pics of Chu's furry bro Diablo and sis Ginger-can u tell who the girl is? haha) |
