GOOD LUCK w/ her! She's been through a lot and you too. Rest up and just keep on top of those doctor's orders and hopefully she'll pull through! Do you have any recent photos of her that you could post up? I WISH YOU AND HER THE BEST!!! I'm so glad you decided to go ahead and take her in! |
http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ies/?start=140 Here is a link to my PB. Lady is toward the bottom of this page. Feel free to look at my other stuff if you are interested. Poor Lady, we just gave her some medicine. I just looked over and she's trying to barf. Oh, she hurts so bad, I wish I could take it for her. They told me she would hurt but not too much worse than when I picked her up. Bull____!!!! She hurts a lot! I'm going to give her a little Tylenol. I know it won't help much but it's the only thing I can think to do. I didn't finish above, I had to check on her, I gave her some water and food by syringe, too. |
Did they tell you that she could take the Tylenol on top of whatever pain medication and antibiotics they gave you? If her stomach is upset (maybe due to the pain), it may not be the best idea. |
SHE'S a CUTIE. ;) |
No, they didn't say to give her anything for the pain. Is there anything you can suggest? I don't want to make her heave again, it really had to hurt. |
OMG they gave her NOTHING for pain? That's so wrong:cry: Please call them first thing in the morning and demand meds for her. Shoot, that's just awful that she's having to suffer:( Maybe you could call an emergency vet and ask about pain meds and what you can give her? See if you can just get her to hold down some chicken broth and maybe some plain white rice mixed in with it, tiny tiny amounts of everything until she's feeling better. She does need to eat soon to get her strength back. Bland is best. |
They didn't send you home w/ any liquid pain medication?!?! I wonder why. To be honest, I'd probably call your vet's office and ask prior to giving her something. Have you given her Enteric Coated Tylenol before? If so, then I wouldn't feel so odd about giving it to her, but now is not the time to be seeing if she's going to have a negative reaction to it. I'd just try and comfort her as best you can and keep her as inactive as you can for the next few days. Please call your vet when you get a chance and see if they can't give her a liquid pain medication for you to give her during this time. That's ridiculous that they never even brought it up w/ you before you left. |
I'm sorry, I misled you, she didn't vomit, she had the dry heaves. No, I've never given her any Tylenol before but I was going to use children's liquid. They told me she wouldn't be in much more pain than when I picked her up. Maybe she was in a lot of pain but still groggy cause she's sure in pain now. She did get up and go into the next room to get a drink of water. There was no reason for her to go in there, I have water in the xpen where I put her. I think maybe she felt she had to get up and move around a bit. The vet prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet Antitoxident Formula for her. It breaks down into pieces small enough to be drawn up into a syringe when mixed with water and then squirted into her mouth. She just doesn't seem to be able to even stand the smell of food. She is just bones. I feel I have to force something down her. I gave her 3cc's of medicine in a 2tsp syringe and filled it up the rest of the way with water. Then I gave her a syringe of the food and water, then a syringe of water. She's tucked under my chair right now. |
Just so she doesn't "waste away" in the meantime since she's not wanting to really take much down....I'm assuming because of the pain, I'd recommend you give her pedialyte instead of water. Ask your vet about this. Further, you can ask him about giving her a tbsp's worth of NutriCal at every meal and see what he says to this. Her organs and muscles NEED nutrition if she's to recover and it doesn't sound like she's going to be getting enough of even the basics otherwise. As far as a liquid pain med, I can't remember the name of it...Droncit? No, maybe...it's a whitish/yellowish liquid pain med that tastes like Honey. He should know what I'm talking about. Works wonders and the dogs seem to like it. |
So sorry to hear what is going on with Lady. It looks like you caught it in time. I hope she starts eating and feeling better. |

Did your vet give her a POP shot after she whelped? Try this whelping pudding. 16 oz. water 1 pkg Knox Gelatin (unflavored) (micro to dissolve) 15 oz. can evaporated mil 2 tablespoons of vanilla yogurt 2 eg yoks 2 tablespoons white corn syrup Mix all incredients in bowl let set in fridge until it thinkins. Spoon out as needed |
Poor Lady ... I hope today will be far better for her! I know how helpless you must feel. After all the suggestions, I have one more pertaining to her upset stomach. We recently had a scare with Toto and because of snow/road conditions and the lateness of the hour, we couldn't contact our vet. I had just made fresh chicken broth for her [I keep it frozen and on hand at all times, no seasoning and strained twice] and was desperate that I couldn't get her to at least drink water. I warmed about 3 T. of broth and she lapped it right up! I began doing this about every 20 min. and eventually she began drinking water. She too was vomiting but the major problem was the diarrhea .... she went so many times it was like pooping water! I also learned that she loves that broth so much, I believe I could pour it on anything and she would eat it! I hope this possibly helps and am praying that she will be better today. |

This really is a wonderful recipe. Make sure not to put the whites in from the eggs. You can add vanilla yogurt to it also if you'd like. The dogs absolutely love it and maybe it would entice Lady to want to eat a little. Poor little girl. I pray she has a full recovery and will be looking for updates. Hopefully she will sleep a lot. Also, the little Mamma taking care of 2 litters will need this power pack mixture during the day also to help her through. I have only ever given baby aspirin for pain. Like others have said, check with the vet. That is crazy that he didn't give you something for her pain. |
Ask your vet for some Rebound, it has all the protein, fat, and fiber in a palatable, easy to tolerate formula. Pets seem to like the flavor so acceptance is usually not an issue. |

I have to go out but will answer more questions when I get back. Sylvia |
My husband took Lady to the er vet last night about 1am, didn't get home til about 4am. Lady had some leakage, that was normal but after a while she was bleeding from the stitches. It wouldn't stop and it wasn't a whole lot but it wouldn't stop. I was going to try to put some super glue on it but thot I better talk to the vet first. She said to come in. Lady still wasn't eating or moving around at all. Everything that went into her I had to force. The vet said that it was all just leakage but I'm still not sure about that because it was red, red, red. Not pink like the leakage. They put a wrap around her belly and wanted to keep her but I was uncomfortable with that. I wanted her near me to keep an eye on. I asked for pain meds and something for her nausea. The dry heaves were what caused the stitches to pull open. As soon as I could get something into her I could feel her belly growling so her body was absorbing it as fast as I could get it into her. There was nothing left to vomit. I'm feeling some hope for her now cause she got up tonight and walked into the kitchen to get some water. She has water in the pen with her but she wants the water in the kitchen. My son made her some food with water and she lapped up some of the water off the food. I couldn't tell but I hope she took a bite or two also. We have medicated her and the pain pills make her sleep so she's sleeping right now. |
Oh huh I hope she is feeling better soon. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. |
I took the wrap off of her yesterday and she's doing a lot better. Last night she was leaking again but it's clear. In fact I can't tell if it's from her stitches or urine leakage. We are calling the vet today and seeing if he will see her today. I do not hate my vet but I'm very upset with him and will be looking for another. Problem is there are none close to us. Ahhh, well, it is what it is. Lady has been looking in on the babies but not trying to reach them. I weighed them today and she came over to watch. I held the one in my hands to her and she didn't act like she knew him. Well, he wasn't hers so I held one of hers to her and she still didn't act like she knew him. I'm sure she knows she should have babies but I guess her babies smell like Amber now. I let Amber out of the pen and left it open. I didn't see Lady go in and Amber didn't act like there was anyone looking at the babies. All of the dogs like to go in and check on the babies. This is Amber's first litter so she was very possessive but she seems to be getting over it. Sylvia |
