Prayers for Penny, please Well, what I thought was a red bump from a kitty scratch at Thanksgiving has turned out to be not that whatsoever. I've been keeping a close eye on her sore, located right next to her nose, keeping it clean, etc. However, in the last few weeks it has only grown and looked nastier by the day. Took her in today. The vet says it's definitely not from the cat. Several options to figure out what it is: skin scrape, needle aspirate, biopsy, and fungal culture if necessary. Penny wouldn't let them get the skin scrape, but the doctor was able to get the needle aspirate. After reviewing it, she's very suspicious that is is a histiocytoma, a benign growth that younger dogs get. IF the biopsy determines that's what it is, then here's the course of action: 50/50 chance it goes away on its own. If not, it can be surgically removed. We could have it removed now (if this is the diagnosis), but I already don't like that unless it's bothering her because even if it's only 50/50 chance of healing on its own, I don't want her under anesthesia if we can prevent it. Penny started an antibiotic today just to make sure it's not a bacterial infection. The vet said it wouldn't hurt. She also said that she's not too concerned about a cancer scare since Penny is so young. However, I'm nervous. The biopsy procedure scares me. Just has a bad connotation. :( So, prayers for Penny, please, that everything comes back positive and that we can easily treat her. |
Oh, the poor baby and the poor mommy too! Sending prayers up for her speedy recovery and that it is nothing to worry over.:getwellso :tinyheart |

I hope it will disappear. My new Yorkie arrived in Sept, 7 months old, he had two tumours under his chin removed when neutered. They were biopsied and benign. He had a few stitches afterwards. I was told they might return because if the margins were removed it would change the facial expression but the vet thought they were not malignant and they weren't. I figured it was better to take a chance that they wouldn't grow back and deal with a pulled down mouth if it has to be done again, later on. I dislike his breeder, a liar, intensely. She didn't care about him, Ajendas in FL. I have Penny and you in my thoughts and prayers. Jessica |
1 Attachment(s) We are still waiting for the biopsy results; we expect them some time this week, but with the holiday it will probably be later rather than sooner. :( She is now guarding the area so I know it is bothering her which worries me because before she paid no attention to it. And, of course, she is upset because she knows something is going on in the house but we can't introduce her to her little sister until we get the test results back and are sure it is nothing contagious. Here is a pic of what we are dealing with. The sore is dime size. |

Prayers and Yorkies kisses from DooDah to Penny. Get well real soon sweetheart. |
Update I just talked to the vet. The biopsy results were not conclusive. There were not enough cells intact for them to make a diagnosis. They did find inflamatory cells but no bacteria. The doctor is recommending surgical removal of the growth which they will send in for testing since the antibiotics are not working and she is now bothered by it. The growth is still increasing as well. They are going to call back with an estimate, and I have to talk to Penny's daddy about the surgery. He was pretty sure we'd have to have it removed, but this is not good news. :( Also, we need to keep Penny and the new baby separated until after surgery. Poor Penny. |
OH My Goodness! Poor Penny! Mojo and I feel so sorry for her and you all too! That sore looks so big and painful! Oh, that just makes me sick....I hope she isn't hurting! Is there anything that we can do? I think the surgery will be best - and I hope it takes care of it!!!! That poor little girl! Please, please keep us posted! |
Poor Penny. Sending prayers upward and hugs outward :ghug: |
Penny had her pre-op blood work done today. She goes in for surgery next Thursday, January 4th. |

2 Attachment(s) Thanks to all for the prayers. Countdown for surgery is on. As this thing grows and continues to bother her, we are getting more anxious to have it removed and diagnosed. First pic is from yesterday. She had rubbed the scab, causing some crusting and bleeding. Woke up like this. :( Poor baby. I know she can\'t understand what is going on. Second is from today. Scab is gone; now just the big yucky growth, but it seems to bother here a bit less without the scab. |
I feel what you are going through, my lil baby is very sick at the hospital and I am praying for him and praying for you little penny. Best of Luck. |

I just lit a candle for Penny. I hope everything turns out ok. Sorry the biopsy they got was inconclusive. Keep us updated please. |
Ugh... and the drama continues. Penny started throwing up around 4:00 yesterday and continued throughout the night. It was a long, worry-filled night. Took her into the vet this morning. No fever, no abdominal pain, etc. We are going to be conservative for now, just watching her and limiting food/water intake and see how it goes. However, her surgery has now been postponed until NEXT Thursday. UGH. I know it\'s best for her health not to be put under when she isn\'t well, but I hate that she\'ll have to deal with the growth another week. On a positive note, the growth is done just a bit in size. Ha! Maybe the whole thing will magically disappear before next Thursday, and we can put the past 6 weeks behind us! |
I just read your post...I am so sorry you and little Penny have to go through this...It\'s so hard because they can\'t tell you how they feel...Maybe it\'s a good thing that they had to push the surgery date out..especially if it seems to be going down a little...maybe this is a sign that it will be gone before she needs to have the surgery....sending hugs  and prayers:hands: your way.. |
Special prayers are going to Penny . |
Thanks for the update. I imagine you must be torn by the good/bad report. Poor little Penny .... we will continue to pray for her. |
