I am glad he didn't suffer any immediate problems and hope he will not suffer any longterm effects like developing cancer or endocrine problems later on. A natural remedy to remove toxins from the body is boiled beef liver given 1/2 teaspoon for a 6 pound dog every 3 hours (too much can cause diarrhea). No way of knowing if it's effective, but it sure wouldn't hurt to try it for a couple of weeks. |
Thorsmomma, Are you crazy??? Get your baby to the vet IMMEDIATELY! Tell them what he ate! Last fall my 4 month old yorkie Stuart DIED! He started coughing up blood, when I got home from work, he was covered in pee, poop & vomit. I rushed him to the vet immediately and he died within a 1/2 hour. She did a necropsy (autopsy pretty much) and found rat poison in his system. She said it could have been ingested anytime in the last 3 weeks. Depending on the brand some work faster than others. Anyways, I had NO symptoms or signs that anything at all was wrong with him until it was too late to save him. It was HORRIBLE to watch him die coughing up blood! PLEASE PLEASE call your vet!!! My vet had told me that if I knew, they would have pumped him full of vitamin K, which is a natural blood clotter, since rat poison eliminates vitamin K in the animals system, that animal bleeds out. but if caught in time, pumping him with vitamin K will save his life. Anyways.. please, please don't take chances!!! Get your thor to the vet and tell them what happened! I don't want to see what happened to my Stuart happen to your baby! |
I'm sorry, I really don't (yet do) mean to scare you. That day last year, Sept 26th, was the worst day of my life. Watching my baby suffer like that. I had no idea where he got into rat poison. I just don't want to see it happen to someone else's baby b/c its horrible! |
HAHAHAHA ok not that this is wicked funny, but I read your message and panicked, thinking of my little boy... you said ROACH NOT RAT!!!! My dog ate Rat poison. I have no idea what to do with Roach poison... disregard what I said! I"m sorry I was so adament or harsh, I was just thinking about what I went through!! |
Does anyone know the outcome of this accident? |

I had put these little roach killers around the house in spots where I knew the dogs couldn't get them. They smell like peanut butter so they really like them:thumbdown . Anyways to make a long story short, my lil sis came home for the holidays and moved some stuff around and Thor found some poison in her room. Thor has given himself some taste aversion therapy. He will not get near peanut butter anymore! But most importantly Thor is fine. |
I would induce vomiting as well just to be on the safe side of things. |
should have read the end of the thread...i'm glad all is well! |
Thorsmom, here is a good roach eliminator: Mix l part sugar to one part baking soda. Roaches can't resist the sugar, and the baking soda kills them, since their GI systems are acidic. Really works. Would still need to be out of doggie's reach. Glad Thor's fine. |
