Poor girl..she must feel much better now!! I dont think all ticks carry lime disease?? Did you disinfect the wounds at all? Is there any type of rash? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1090138AA2xkUj When in doubt...use yahoo answers..its an awesome place when you need a quick answer!! Hope your baby is feeling better soon, Dawn |
It is only deer ticks that you get lyme ffrom so its llikely she doesnt get lyme disease but if you havethe ticks would have the vet check just to be on the safe side |
thanks everyone, i'll be posting the pictures of the ticks and update tiggy's vet visit on monday just curious, can ticks jump from one dog to another? |
Ticks are GROSS! they don't usually jump from one animal to another...once they have inbedded themselves they usually stay on that animal until they are full and then fall off...This means they are full of eggs! DON'T touch them with your fingers! they carry diseases that humans can get...My Parents little schnauzer gets them from time to time and Mom uses tweezers, puts it in a papertowel and Dad burns the little sucker in the stove...I HATE those things... My vet told me that the ticks that carry lyme disease are the size of a speck of pepper and unless you have deer around you area I wouldn't think it is a deer tick but, would have the vet check just incase. I was watching a program on animal planet last week and the ticks they showed were HUGE!! I mean like the size of a large grapefruit...Imagine seeing one of those things coming for ya! YUCK! It gave me the willies just seeing the thing! |
I pulled one off(with tweezers) of grayson on halloween it was a brown one as well, I don't not destroy them I do just like I do with my kids I freeze them for 2 weeks (if no signs of sickness then you can toss them) See if my kids or now animals get sick I still have the tick so it can be tested) So far grayson has been ok I thought ticks were only around spring and summer? |
My new Yorkie arrived with "seed" ticks. Some were quite large and they were all removed by the vet. I never had any ticks on my other dogs. We have wild life in my area, last year it was baby bears and a coyote (in NJ), so my dogs do not roam freely in the fenced in yard. The deer are in abundance since we are near a reservation and water reserve. It's a big issue here about hunting to thin out the herd. I see several large dogs at the vets being treated for lymes disease. They look sad and emaciated. I have a friend with lymes disease and it's not fun. Since Tigger shows no symptoms and you think she had the ticks for a while, chances are they aren't deer ticks. Poor baby, must have felt so uncomfortable. I check my dogs all the time. They can get ticks just walking them in the street (no sidewalks here) if there is tall grass next to the curb. Jessica |
ewwwww.....I know only certain ticks carry the Lyme disease - and it IS curable but can take a long time and can re-occure....GOOD LUCK and keep checking everyday if you already have this problem.... |
Oh, poorbaby. Hugs for both of you. |
Poor Tiggy. Are you using a tick preventative? If so What? I heard some are better than others. |

I researched it for you. Don't panic and think the worst like I did when I saw seed ticks on my new puppy. Every tick picture I found looked like lyme ticks to me. I drove myself crazy by the time we had a vet appointment the next day. Jessica |
