blood in stool my gilbert has had a loose stool all day and I noticed there was some blood in it. Do I need to get him to the emergency vet tonite or just wait till am? The only thing in his diet that has changed is that I switched hime to adult science diet food instead of the puppy kind. He's not acting any differently, still playing, etc |
I think you can wait untill tomorrow and take him to the vet. Chachi has had diahrea with blood in it before too |

send your baby to the vet immediately my baby had the same situation too... but she was not so lucky:( ... this symtoms might be parvo.... u should send your baby to the vet immediately, dont wait... yorkie are too fragile..... do take good care alright and all the best to you, keep us updated with your baby |
I hope it's nothing, but I have no clue. Best wishes to you and Gilbert, please let us know how he's doing:love: Tracy and Luna |
I would suspect the change of diet to be the cause, but like one poster mentioned it could be something that requires a vet's attention. If he is acting just fine and eating normally, I would put him on boiled chicken (easy on the stomach to digest) and cooked white rice (firms the stool) until his stomach heals. If the blood continues after 24 - 48 hours on the chicken and rice, he won't eat, or acts lethargic, or the diarrhea is frequent with any vomiting I would take him in because it is probably a bacterial infection or a parasite like worms, coccidia or giardia. If it was parvo, I don't think you would be posting, I think you would already be at the vets. The symptoms are usually very severe. In the future, whenever making a change in their diet, do so slowly over a two week period by adding a little of the new with the old and gradually increasing until the diet change is complete. |
Hoping Gilbert's digestive tract is back to normal. Please post update when you get a minute and let us know how he is doing. |
