soo sad :[ need to vent <l3 sorry if long .. well my little howie has always been a little energizer yorkie since the day my boyfriend brought him home for my birthday. howie is from a local petstore and my boyfriend didn't know anything about petstores and puppymills, so i didn't make a big fuss because it is the thought that counts and i realized i was going to give him all the proper love and care he deserves. well, tuesday we had some guests and they left a water bottle out and it had only a little bit of water left in and we let howie out after the left to play a little .. he got into and when he lifted the bottle up the water went into his mouth [throat] and he kinda gagged and since then he has been acting very strange. loss of appetite, lethargic only when he is in his room, barking and whining like crazy at the ceilings, and just like an hour ago i went to see if he would eat out of my hand and it seemed like he was gagging again like he wanted to throw up .. i panicked and i was trying to help him and he got over it. i have an appt tomorrow with the vet .. and i am bawling right now :[ my boyfriend is at a bowling game and i called him crying and he came straight home .. i called my parents who live in texas [i live in florida]. i'm soo sad :( :( :( sorry if this was really long but i just needed to vent because other than my boyfriend, parents, and bestfriend care .. everyone else is like "so it's just a dog" |
It is possible he aspirated the water into his lungs, which could explain the gagging. If that is the case, it could cause pneumonia or another infection. Do you have an ER vet near you? If so, I would at least call rather than wait till tomorrow. Good luck and let us know how he is. |
Oh I'm so sorry. I know you must be terribly frightened. i think taking him to the vet is the best thing, if he can't clear it from his lungs he could get pneumonia. Keep us posted on how he is doing,. |
Oh I am so sorry you baby is not feeling well! I think you need to see if you can take him to the vet tonight. I think it is possible it could be in his lungs too. I hope he gets to feeling better. Please call your vet tonight. I live in a small town and we only have 2 vets and If I call they always come out and meet me at the clinic. I always feel better even if it wasnt that big of a deal. |
Gaging is serious, you need to get him to the Vet asap, if he aspirated the water into his lungs he could be in trouble. Please let us know how he is doing, and Good Luck, he is in my prayers, please hurry to the Vet. |
Oh honey, I am so sorry about Howie, I know the emergency vet/clinics are more costly, but, as everyone is saying if he asperated water into his lungs it can cause pneumonia. If you can please get to the vet as soon as possible. please keep us updated..... |
thank you so much .. i am off the animal ER. i will update you all please please please keep howie in your prayers tonight :( i'm cryingg like crazzyy! |

UPDATE: my little howie is doing so much better, the vet said he has a very bad sore throat and that is the reason why he was gaggin. i was so realived to know it was not pneumonia. i want to thank you all for the prayers and understanding i honestly do not know what i would do without such great yorkietalk friends. i was sad and scared for my howie and then i was hurt by the awful thigs some of my "friends" said to me ... "if he's gonna die let him don't waste your money" i was an emotional wreck .. once again ladies and gents thaaankk you from the bottom of mine and howies heartt. <3 |

Great news. :) Hugs to little Howie. :aimeeyork |
Great news ! Hugs for both of you. |
i no longer speak to them i was like "whaaaat are you serious???" and sad to say they own a maltese :[ i just moved here to florida from mcallen, texas about 4 months ago and i thouught i had made new friends but guess not  just a little while ago my boyfriend went to his moms house and he came back with a homemade get well basket for howie with toys, clothes, bows .. i started to cry :D |
I'm so glad Howie's okay. Topher got a sore throat about a week after he came to us...actually he had tonsillitis and had to go on antibiotics. I didn't realize dogs could get tonsillitis! How sweet of your bf's mom to make the basket for Howie...she sounds like a lovely woman. |
I think all of us are in agreement here that no amount of money is too much for our dogs since they are like children to us. Sometimes I think people say that maybe to "help" you not feel guilty and make a rational judgment call based on circumstances and not emotions. Just last week I was guilty myself in saying "are you sure you want to pay this amount of money?" The situation was that a friend of my daughter's puppy got his leg torn off by a Pitbull. Both dogs were fenced and this still happened. Anyway, she had only had the free puppy for a day and the bills were going to be over a thousand dollars, plus the puppy was going to be in a lot of pain obviously for a while. The bills turned out to be even more because it kept getting reinfected. The dog is doing really well now on three legs, but the girl is going to be buried under the charges for quite some time. Logically, it did make since to put the dog down and get another from the litter, but emotionally she couldn't do this (not sure I could have either, but my financial situation is better than hers). |

So glad to hear he's doing better! My In laws lived in Palm Harbor for over 20 years! Sadly they have both passed on. It is very nice there. |
I hope little Howie will be OK .... and I have to agree, he needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Please keep us updated! Will have him in our prayers. Just saw your update .... glad things sound better now! Give the little guy some extra hugs from us! |

Your boyfriend came back with the basket for Howie????/ Or did your "future Mother in law"????Either way.......what a wonderful compassionate thing to do..... I am impressed! |
I'm so glad Howie is ok and what a thoughtful surprise your BF's mom sent to you. That is so sweet. As far as the remarks you received from your so-called friends - it never ceases to amaze me that people can be so heartless towards the furry members of our families, or any furry creature for that matter. |
That was a pretty krappy thing for your friend to say about your beloved pet! Think I'd find some new friends to hang out with! For me its like "love me, better love my dogs too". Its a package deal here! So glad your baby is ok! I know it can be terrifying when they get sick or hurt. |
