Sissy at the Pet Emergency Room I feel so bad tonight. Sissy got into my briefcase. She can pull down the zippers! She ate some sample meds from work:( , empty capsules all over along with vomit when I walked in. I was so scared. I think she is out of the woods now. They had to water her through her SQ tissue. She can't eat until tomorrow. What a nightmare. Did you guys know to call animal poison control, it costs $55.00 just to find out how dangerous whatever your pet got into is. If I didn't call from home and the emergency room had to call, they add on more on top of that just to call, then the walk in fee, then whatever they had to do. I feel like I got off cheap. A little under $200 but I just spent $500 a week ago today to get their shots updated and also both got spayed. They didn't even get their stitches out and poor Sissy's belly must have hurt vomiting so many times. Her BP dropped, she asperated on the vomit and began dehydrating. The bubbles in her back they say is normal. I just brought her home and I am afraid to sleep. I feel so guilty. I never thought they could pull down zippers. I am going to stay home from work tonight and baby proof my house again. I thought I did this already. Everyone be careful and double check your homes. This is so sad to see her little body with no energy:( (she is 5 pounds) Her regular Doc will see her tomorrow. |
I am so sorry for your worries. It is amazing what they can get into. I'm sure everything will be fine. |
So sorry to hear about your experience. I hope she is feeling better soon.:) |
Please give little Sissy hugs and kisses from Sissy and I and tell her to get all better and never do that again!! I'm so glad Chloe didn't follow Sissy into this one!! |
I hope she's going to be OK! |
I can't understand why they will eat the pills, pills I have taken have been bitter,no way I could chew them. I hope sissy is herself soon. |
The poor baby!! I'm so glad you caught it when you did. I'm sure she'll be fine but just give her some extra kisses from me. |
Soo sorry to here this. Hope she'll be fine soon. |
Oh poor baby! I'm sure she'll be OK! Thank God for emergency vets |

I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope she is feeling better by tomorrow. I can't understand why dogs would eat pills. You know, if she needed to take them it would take three people to get her to swallow one! We're human we can only be so careful. This morning I woke to see that I had never eaten the Baby Ruth (stole from the Halloween candy bucket) that I took to bed with me. I felt really lucky my Yorkies had not decided to have a midnight snack since it was within their reach! |
Hoping Sissy is feeling better. |
Hi and thanks everyone, Last night I was besides myself, she looked so "taxidermies" like:( Tonight her labored breathing has settled some, she is still dehydrated so I may take her in for more shots to her sq tissue in the morning. I took off most the day from work, walked her in her carriage for the most part, so Chloe could eat & drink normally but Chloe did not want to either. Good for me Chloe brought me the pill at the door when I came in or I would not have known right away. Besides the labored breathing & dehydration, her blood pressure was low and they think she asperated on the vomit to bring the medication back into her system afterward. She supposedly was not going to vomit anymore today but we had 2 episodes. I think I am more in control of myself now, but last night I could not stop crying. All I could think of as she rested was to sign on to Yorkie Talk. I just could not control myself, then the poison control and the ER vet said I HAD to call my private vet office this morning and explain to them what happened, as I did I broke down again. I am usually excellent in emergency situations. Not out of the woods yet but she is breathing to where I can hear it again. I can't wait till I can see her little chest go up and down again. I like what you said about taking 3 people to have her take a pill, how true that is. Unless it has peanut butter on it, I can't get either one of them to take any thing I want them too. Did I mention that she actually unzipped my briefcase???? Geeze, I have had to get into it at work and needed to use both hands! ok, not crying, in control, I know she'll make it, Got a break in my left shoulder, she is resting next to Chloe & I know Chloe will come in here to call me IF Sissy needs me, so I guess all is well for now. Does anyone ramble on when their nerves are shot? OK I am stopping the rambling right now thanks again everyone AND Jodie, thanks for teaching me how to make a thread only the day before, I needed that yesterday. It's like talking to a good friend only in bunches..... good night everyone |
ohhh my heavens! what a nightmare, poor little Sissy and poor you! You and your baby are both in my thoughts and prayers! Keep her close to you tonight, I dont think I could sleep either. Please let us know how she is doing in the morning. Bless you and Sissy! |

OMG:eek: . What a nightmare! I sure hope she has a 100% recovery. With the spay it will make it even harder for you to tell. I bet you stare at her constantly....watching....watching. Oh, I feel so bad for you (and her). Did they check her thoroughly due to her recent surgery? Poor little baby. I will check back and hope to see that she is getting better and better. |
Hoping Sissy is doing much better today. Pattie I hope you got some much needed rest as well. Keeping you both in my prayers. |
I just saw this and how lucky she's ok !! GOOD LUCK and I hope she feels better |
oh poor Sissy . . .hope she is feeling much better now . . . sending warm and good thoughts as well as prayers for a speedy recovery. |
ok so now it is 3 hours since breakfast, she is keeping this down (boiled chicken & rice) Chloe is mad that she can't have any! One more hour will pass the time she was able to keep down food yesterday, still no energy, shaking bad. The shaking scares me, I keep thinking how when they were 3 months old and how you looked for that shaking for hypoglycimia........ She is just probably cold with no full belly! She lost 7 ounces so far. I think that a lot because she is only 6 months and only 6 pounds. The Doc is not oerly concerned tho, so I shouldn't worry. IF she keeps this down, then in 4 more hours I feed her another tablespoon, IF she keeps that down, maybe I can get some mind relief............. Thanks everyone |
Oh no how scarey! I hope you feel better Sissy! Dont do that again! |
I hope Sissy is able to keep her food down and begins to get better! I will keep you in my thoughts/prayers today! |
Patti, i hope she is well soon. and don't worry about rambeling we don't care . we are here to listen and help.. please know that you both are in our thoughts and prayers... keep us updated... much love, annette and louie:aimeeyork |
Patti, I am so sorry your all going through rough times. She is lucky to be alive, poor baby. I have heated the chicken and rice in the microwave for about 15 sec to warm it when Buddy was sick. Maybe this will warm her insides some if it is coming from the refrig. Hope she is better today. Prayer's coming for a speedy recovery. |
Rambling is definitely understandable, and understood! I know it helps just to feel like you're talking to someone who understands. It all sounds so scary, and I hope you're out of the woods soon! POOR BABY! |
Tonight was so strange. Sissy ate the prepared chicken & rice, did not vomit tonight @ 9PM and even drank from her bowl of water. Still no vomit but she fell right asleep instantly, like she was still on sleeping pills. @ 1AM, she woke and barked at Chloe, is running around the house now trying to find paper to chew up and shred. Almost like nothing happened. I guess we are all better. Tmorrow she will not have to have the sacks of water injected I don't think but while I am at her Doc's, I will have him pull out her stitches instead of waiting for Monday thanks everyone Good night (and it was!):) |
SOOOOOOO glad to hear she is starting to act like herself! Praying she has a full recovery:) |
I am glad to hear that she is feeling better... Keep getting stronger Sissy!! |
Sissy is recovered. Thanks to everyone for the comments and support. I am never ever leaving anything from work on the floor again UNLESS it has a padlock on it!:p and maybe not even then... She is drinking from a bowl today, yesterday at 6PM was her last shot of fluids, they feel she is recovered and they also took her stitches and CHloe's stitches out last night as well. It feels so good to see Sissy bossing Chloe around once again:) She pee-ed on my new carpet tonight but I don;t care:D |
Soooo glad all is well! Oh my gosh I am close to tears reading these posts! I am just imagining what it would be like to go through this! I didn't see this thread till now so I just read it all. My gosh God bless your heart! You poor thing. I'm glad it's going well. And i am so greatful to have YT. I really don't think I know many people that would understand something like this like all you guys. What a great support group we all are for each other!!! :cheer: </IMG> |
