my old guy nearly died this am from pancreatitis and hes not out of the woods yet. bentley is a rescure that ive had for 10 years and is about 14-16 yo nm. he is in decent health except for chronic eye problems. yesterday i gave him some staek to eat because he was picking at his food and i like to spoil him when the younger girls arent looking. around 2am he bagan to vomit and it continuued an & off through tam. my partner took him to the animal hospital ( i work at a human hospital) because he became listless and couldnt stand on his own. i thouht that he was "just" dehydrated. turns out his pancreatic enzymes were high and he was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. it was on & off all day. his temp was only 96 degrees and he spent the day in an incubator :(. they had been giving him fluids with stuff in and later an IV fluid w/vit B12 and a pain killer because he seemed uncomfortable. hi is still "down and out" but they dont have 24 hour staffing so i will be picking him up in 1 hour and checking on him during the night. he will need subq fluids for the next 2 days at least- hopefully he will pull through- please say a prayer for him- tx sara |
aww bless him i hope he gets better soon:) |
I will say a pray for the little guy, I hope he feels better soon! :hands: :hands: :hands: |
I will certainly keep him in my prayers. |
We will certainly keep your little guy in our prayers! Please keep us updated. |
PLEASE read about pancreatitus and people food here at this forum. People food will kill your babies. It killed one of mine at just 6 1/2 years old. I did not know better. Please research Pancreatitus here. I pray your baby does fine and will be all healthy again. |
My prayers for you and your baby....:hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: :hands: |
You guys will be in my prayers. |
Sending prayers for a speedy recovery to Bentley and Roxy sends some wet little puppy kisses to make him feel better. It's so hard not to spoil our little ones. :( |
bentley seemed more alert this am and was giving small kisses ( his breath reeks). i dropped him off at the vets for the day so that he can be given more fluids and monitored. im feeling very hopeful today! thanks for everyones prayers- sara and bentley! |
Prayers are going on Bentley's way . Hope he'll be better soon . |
God loes us and our fur babies......sending prayers your way, keep us posted |
I hope he gets better fast. Bo has chronic pancreatitis and is on a very strict diet. |
I hope Bentley is better soon. For some reason, dogs can't digest cooked fat. Did it have any fat in it? That's why ribs and roast beef usually cause a lot of problems. I would think steak with no fat would be fine, but when you have a senior probably nothing is safe. |
Oh, I'm sorry he got so sick. I think you both need hugs. I hope he is lots better soon. Let us know how he gets along as the days pass.:) |
Get well wishes to Bentley! I'll say a prayer...poor little guy!!! |

There is a ton of info on here about pancreatitis. Also, there is an animal nutritionist I highly recommend, as do others - her name is Susan Davis - and she has worked miracles for many of us. Recently, she helped a member "Laurenr" - whose dog, Mango, was just diagnosed with Pancreatitis - and is THRIVING on a homecooked diet. If you PM Lauren, I'm sure she'll share her experience w/ Susan with you. :) |
im sorry, but i do not know how to find that person, or to do a search on pancreatitis |
I hope your baby is home soon and running around like normal! They can scare us sooo much! |
Hope he continues to improve. Prayers for Bentley! |
Praying that Bentley pulls through. my girl Maggie had pancreatitis last October and she is doing really well now. I didn't feed her table food but a high fat content puppy food as recommended by a vet during her pregnancy. So it isn't just caused by table food. Now she is on natural balance and she does get treats but I cautiously watch the fat content in anything I give her. |

There are other member who are GREAT with this issue - and I know they'll chime in eventually. :) |
thanks so much! |
Prayers and happy thoughts for you baby. |
thanks so much. elliott came home last night, and got rechecked this morning. hes on a bland diet, (ID from Hills) are oyu familiar wiht it? also has pain med, (Torbitrul), and also on clavomox. so, its just a matter of watching him closely. he's been a bit perkier today, just eating VERY little each time, about a tablesppon of the ID every little while. They gave him an injection for fluids because he would not drink any water. so, keep him in your prayers please. and thank you many times over! |

I'm glad Elliot is home and feeling perkier. I'll keep him in my prayers. :) |
sending prayers to your little to get better. |
Hoping for a full recovery. Sending hugs your way! It's very stressful and I had this with one of my Yorkies. She was sensitive to steroids and her vet didn't mark her records as such. She pulled through but it took time. She was also on milk thistle(non alcohol) from the health food store for her liver when we changed vets. Jessica |
