Eddie's limping :( I always thought Eddie was invincible with all the exercise he gets, but his left-rear leg pulled up lame after a run-in with a loose neighbor puppy today. He doesn't appear to be in any pain, but all I can think is LP. Ugh. My vet is in surgery today, but I'm going to drop him off first thing tomorrow. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do in the meantime? I'm thinking about giving him a warm bath. It was especially cold out today, so maybe he just pulled something. I knew this neighbor lab puppy was going to be trouble when an 8-year-old girl was hauling him around unleashed and uncollared at 6-7 weeks. He's now 3-4 months and pushing 20 pounds. He was totally unattended. I had Eddie on leash and Jack in a heel when he plowed into them. I'm so sad. |
Awww, kisses to Eddie. Hopefully it's nothing, maybe just a pulled muscle or something. Try the warm bath. I know for me, my doctor used to say to poor baking soda into my bath water to get out my knots and relax my muscles. I don't know if it's ok for animals but you can ask your vet about that too. Hopefully all is well with poor Eddie. |
Poor Eddie!! Would he allow a little moist heat on it? Hope it's nothing serious .... maybe just pulled a little muscle or something! Hugs & sweet smoochies from Toto! Please update us. |
Awww poor little Eddie. Maybe he pulled a muscle or stepped on something that hurt his little paw. I'm sure he'll be ok. Codie and Tia send him kisses. Keep us updated on his progress. |
Thanks you guys. I knew I could count on YT for some quick advice. I'll try the moist heat first, then maybe a bath. It might be too difficult for him to stand in the tub. He's hasn't acted like he's in any pain at all and has no problems when I examine it. I can't even recall him yelping when it first happened. I'll let you know how it goes! |
Poor little Eddie, since it was cold he may have just pulled something in his leg....Get Well soon Eddie....my crew sends hugs & kisses....especially Lexie....;) |
Poor Eddie! Hopefully he has just pulled a muscle in his leg |
Poor little guy!!!!! :( :( :( I would definately keep him off that leg. I would put moist heat on it and make sure he doesn't walk around too much 2nite. If it is injured, you definately don't want him to injure it more. Also, if it isn't something serious, staying off of it will give him time to recover. Maybe he'll be good as new tomorrow! Hopefully it is nothing serious and just a pulled muscle. ((((((hugs)))))) from Hobbs and Hootie! Let us know what the vet says! |
It might just be his foot. That's the only thing he favors when I put heat on the area. Thanks for the well-wishes. He's never been hurt, so I'm freaking. |

Hobbs broke his leg from jumping off the couch when he was a tiny puppy. He also did not show any signs of it hurting and he didn't yelp when we touched it. The only sign was limping. The vet said that it is normal for them not to show pain because in the wild it was a sign of weakness for a dog to show pain and the pack would usually leave a weak dog behind. Surely it is not broken, but I just wanted to give you somewhat of an explanation of why he may not wimper or act like it is hurting. |
Awww poor Eddie! Hopefully its nothing serious! Let us know what you find out in the morning! Hope you ouchie goes away Eddie! |

Scout did the same thing one day. I freaked out too. I took him to the emergency vet and waited for an hour and he started walking on it again without being seen (thank goodness$$$). It's like he just turned it wrong or something. I hope your situation turns out the same! |
ooh poor little guy, hopefully he just strained it, Rosi&Poli send get well kisses ! |
my duke hurt his little back legs a few weeks ago. i'm not sure what did it, but i think he fell off the bed when trying to jump on it and came down hard on his back legs. i took him to a retired vet. since it was the weekend and he gave me a pet therapy pad that i could put in the microwave to heat or put in the freezer to cool and he loved the heat. he didn't really show he was in pain, he was still wanting to walk around and such... but he wasn't playing and just didn't seem himself. but, after a night (i slept in the floor with him to make sure he wouldn't jump anywhere!) he was back to his normal self. guessin' he was just a little sore and nothing major. i'm takin' him for a well doggie check-up soon and i'm going to have them check him out for any thing he may be tryin' to hide. hope things go well for you and that he's just a little sore and is back to normal soon. |
Thanks, everyone! All great advice, and some of your stories make me feel a little better about it. I just naturally thought the worst. |
Jaxon and I hope Eddie's leg is ok and it's nothing more than a minor sprain. Keep us posted! |
Little Eddie we hope you are feeling better soon, :ghug: from all of us. |
Sending get well wishes to that little speed demon - he can't be hurt - he's got a thousand more action shots in him - more probably :) Sending HOT Texas kisses to Eddie from the girls to COLD alaska hahaha and you thought that was real love talk didnt' ya ?;) |
Awww, I hope Eddie's feeling better soon! Hopefully it's just a minor sprain and he'll be back on all four feet in no time. I'll keep an eye out for updates! |
Poor little Eddie. Is he putting weight on it, or just holding it up? Maddie had something happen a few weeks ago, but, unlike other digs that hide their pain, she screamed bloody murder! I took her to the vet and by the time he saw us, she could put weight on her leg again. He thought maybe her kneecap had moved just a bit and she seemed to be okay, though she showed some distress when he messed with her knee and paw. I hope the same happens for darling little Eddie! I don't want him to be hurting!!! I love that little guy! |
I have had several occassions whne one of my dogs has hurt/favored a leg only to run them to the vet and getthere and they are running around just fine. I try and wait a day to make sure as long as they are not in any apparent distress. I hope he's fine by tomorrow. |
Sending warm wishes to both you & Eddie. I hope he feels better soon. |

Connie, he's not putting any weight on it. Fortunately, I think he's behaving himself and not running around too much. I'm going to drop him off at the vet's at 8 in the morning. I don't know how some of you guys have dealt with serious health issues. He's all I'm thinking about. I don't care about agility, I don't care about runs, I just want him to feel better. |
aww I'm sooo sorry! I hope everything is ok we had some neighbhoors let their dog loose, it was a rottweiler and I was soo upset about htis in general it would growl at my very young cousins and I just called the animal services and said that it was ridiculous and that the dogs (there were 2) were left outside no leash no collar nothing. Just in the front yard. (they gave them a ticket, because they caught them red handed, but they are continually doing this, they need to train their dogs! I don't want to ask them to be taken away :() Some people need to learn to handle their animals! |
Ahhh I cannot believe I missed this thread at first. Bruce and I are praying for Eddie! We know first hand what it is like to have leg issues. On a brighter note I would not think LP so quickly if he has never shown the tell tale signs before like skipping, suddenly picking the leg up, etc it would most likely have showed itself before it caused lameness... If Eddie is having a problem that requires casting Pet Food Warehouse on Frontage TD (you know towards Diamond a little up and off New Seward), has really great more comfortable e-collars, and well I know you have a great vet look at the miracles they did for Jack! Again we are sending Eddie lots of love and prayers from Seattle!!! |
Poor Eddie! Zena and I are sending "get well soon"-wishes :) |
Oh Mike, I'm so sorry to read about Eddie's injury! Sending lots of prayers that it's nothing more than a pulled/strained muscle. Only problem I've had with mine is Gabby injured her back jumping off the bed and would wimper and whine each time she jumped. We took her to the vet where he diagnosed a slipped disc - she had to stay at the vets on steroids for a couple days and then was allowed to come home. That's been a few years back and she's made a full recovery:) I know the same will be true with Eddie. Gabby and Gage send lots of puppy hugs that he's feeling better soon! |
Just Sending warm wishes to little Eddie. Hope he is ok. I hate to see any baby in hurt. Keep us informed when you hear from the vet. I know how freaky it can be when you think something is wrong. Maddie was at my work and likes to sleep on my desk. Well she decided she would hop up on the ledge where my desk was (never dreamed she would do it). And as I went to get her she fell and went down about 5 feet and fell on her side. She yelped and screamed... I was freaking out and when I picked her up her eyes closed. I just knew she was dead... but within a few minutes and a vet call, she was just fine. These little guys are just the best. Prayers for Eddie coming your way!!! |
awww poor eddie :( i hope he gets better soon.huggs & kisses for eddie from misty and me :D |
