Heart Murmur [/B]Has anyone had a yorkie with a heart murmur? My Holly's heart murmur was discovered just over 2 years ago, she is 16 now. She is collapsing quite a lot, its just a brief collapse then she gets herself back up. We told the vet about this but he didn't seem too concerned, saying it was just something to do with her heart missing a beat type of thing and making her go into a faint, so she sort of has a quick faint then rights herself. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with their yorkie. She is also incontinent, she has been this way since about 5 years of age, apparently due to her being spayed and losing control of her muscles, she takes Incurin for this and it works a treat. She was previously on Propalin Syrup but she had been on it for so many years it had stopped working, and it was giving her dizzy spells. She is also going blind, it doesnt bother her so much when she is in the house, but when she is in the garden and the sun is shining it affects her eyesight badly. So now when she goes into the garden on a sunny day and the sun hits her eyes she gets a fright and this affects her heart and she collapses.....Im always there to help her though. We call her the Grandma!

You might want to look into a product called Cardio-Plus. I am sure it's just her age, but heart worms cause fainting also. Heart murmurs: We have a natural glandular product produced by Standard Process Labs™ called Cardio-Plus® that is awesome for murmurs (smaller dogs often have) and heart attacks (which dogs almost never get but humans do). Dog's love the flavor. I have seen Cardio-plus® literally heal a murmur in 4-6 months if taken on a consistent basis. For most dogs, murmurs heard on the left side (mitral valve murmurs) are caused from dirty teeth. Plaque gets into the bloodstream and has a special affinity for the heart valves. Over time the bacteria in the plaque causes the valves to grow little nodules on the valve flaps, so when the heart valve snaps shut it doesn't shut all the way and blood leaks through at the wrong time. The same goes for humans. That is why when you go to get your teeth cleaned the dental technician wears a mask.

I live in the UK, I have never heard of cardio plus. She was on a medication called Fortekor but it made no difference at all. She doesnt have heartworms. I think her age is starting to slow her down a lot now, plus losing her eyesight isnt helping Thanks anyway.

My little bella was born with one, She is now going on 8 months and the vet checks her every 6 weeks... By looking at her, you would NEVER KNOW!! She is always jumping on my Bunny or my hubbys cat I have one and mine dose and my Dr's keep a CLOSE eye on me.. so I would think a vet would do the same if MY dr dose with me... You might want to get her seen by some one else, JUST in case... Rather be safe then sorry Last edited by OLIVIA_KARHIS; 09-12-2006 at 01:50 PM.

| My Me-Me was born with a heart murmur or PDA. She has had two cardiac ultrasounds and was scheduled for heart surgery when the murmur became more faint. She has never been short or breath even. She has to have another cardiac ultrasound when she is three to make sure she still does not need the surgery. Her vet called her a little miracle. I hope she lives until 16 and more. If and when she needs the operation, I'll do what ever I have to and find the money. She is so worth it.
