| I saw blood in his stool Hi everyone! I called the vet to inform the Dr. that i found blood in his stool. He told me that it was not THAT serious and I can come in on Wednesday. I'm just wondering if anyone experienced this with their yorkies. This is my first dog and I'm very worried about him... Does anyone have any clue about this?!! |

| Hi-- Blood in the stool can be several things...If I were you I would have your vet do a test on the stool asap... Blood can signify a parasite (hook worm, tape worm, coccidia, etc), colitis, toxcidiosis, etc... Please keep us posted on your little ones condition Good Luck! Fran and Sophia

| Put the puppy on boiled chicken and rice until you can see the vet because it is easily digested and easy on the stomach. It really could be anything. See if you can take in a stool sample in the morning. If they don't have time for an appointment, surely they can at least do that for you. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Hmmm...if that were me and my vet wouldn't see me for 3 days - I'd find a new vet. It may not be serious but these kinds of things are far better checked out asap than waiting until something happens. Gooc luck !! |

| hi everyone, i just wanted to tell you that the blood in my yorkie's bm was caused by roundworms!!! yuck!! my vet, with whom i dislike now, did not help me at all. he refused to take a fecal sample before my appt, and canceled my appt the next day. I am very upset about the whole situation. But, yes there is a but, I found a better vet who took georgie in right away and dewormed him. btw, my stupid ex-vet's name is Dr. Kumar near la palma, ca. hope thats bad press for him. |

| Well I am glad you found out the problem and glad you found a new vet. Worms can be very serious in Yorkie pups. Did you see any other signs or just the blood in the stools? Other signs: Animals with mild infestations of roundworms may not show any signs of disease. Animals with more severe infestations may be thin, have dull hair coats, and develop a pot-bellied appearance. Some may become anemic and have vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation. Rarely, in severe infestations, the roundworms can cause obstruction of the intestines. A cough may be observed in some animals due to the migration of the larvae through the respiratory system. In young puppies, the migration of the T. canis larvae in the lungs can cause pneumonia. |

| What's up with that first vet, anyway? That's a horrible way to treat someone. At least it worked out for the best. Now your little guy will feel better and you know he got the proper treatment.

| Hmmm.... i did see some diarrhea a few weeks back but my old vet said it was bc my puppy had kennel cough. I trusted him and i didn't look into the matter any further. he told me that kennel cough took a few months to be completely gone, so I figured it was his cough meds. now, i'm kinda disgusted by the whole roundworm coming out in his bm. Yuck!! i'm picking the bm off the grass, and tile as soon as they come out. I want to keep the environment clean. I have a lil son that i'm worried about, so i'm keeping EVERYTHING as clean as possible. poor georgie has to be confined to a certain area in my house bc he isn't house trained yet. in case there are accidents I want to know where it is at!! don't worry georgie and I are always near each other, so he isn't feeling left out.... i can't wait till this whole deworming thing is cleared up. My hubby makes fun of me bc he thinks i'm being neurotic about the roundworms!! ughhh..... |
