could it be misquitoes? we have them bad here this yeat. ahia has an allergic reaction to them. the itching drove me bonkers. i was begining to think she had this bad skin problem. I started using the pet silk tea tree shampoo and conditioner. the itching is all gone. it helps repel the misquitoes and it also soothes the skin. I take it you have ruled out fleas? keep us updated on how it goes. |
Oh, i thought Benadryl cream, oops, you mean liquid, and what, give him the recomended dose for a child? |
Hi; I don't think its mosquitos, it can be Flee allergy, we have a lot of flees here, we leave right by the ocean, i put the Frontline plus on him every month on the day. once in a while i'll see a flee on him even a week after i put the stuff on him, where do you get that shampoo? |
I order my PetSilk Tea Tree from this site. http://mjmcompany.com/petsilk.htm let me know if it helps you. |
this site is a bit more informative and easier to get around. http://www.petsilk.com/showproduct.php?catname=Cleanse they also have a flea and tick shampoo. I didn't need that one because this one did a fabulous job. |

I don't know much about the mg dosage but Gizmo is 11 pounds and said I could give him 1/2 teaspoon. |
Heck, cover all your bases and rub the cream on him too. Sure couldn't hurt.:) |
Children's liquid benadryl and the fast melt tabs have 12.5 mg. per teaspoon/tablet. The adult pills come in 25 and 50 mg. The only side effect I've seen is drowsiness. Also, the information on the cream and spray say do not use it on a large area and they also warn not to use it orally and topically at the same time (I'm assuming to prevent overdose). |

Most seem to only get relief from a higher dosage like 1 mg. to 1 1/2 mg. per pound. |
Is anything helping? Have you been to the vet? |
Cali is itching a lot so the vet said to give her 2 ml of children's Benydryl. I have been giving her 1 ml and it knocks her out so I would try the lowest dose possible that you can get relief at. Cali is just under 5 lbs. |
I just posted this today - and from what I'm reading Emu Oil is GREAT for itching and sores http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51422 |
We had been giving Ginger 1 mg per lb (since she's 12.5 lbs, 1 children's tab was perfectly sized) threee times a day. In addition she was getting 1/4 tab of Medrol 2 x's a day. Sick of medicating her, I finally had her allergy tested. Turns out her food allergy list is quite long. I could have switched foods until dooms day and NEVER would have figured it out on my own. If your little one continues to itch, or your need for benedryl becomes chronic, consider allergy testing. Then you'll know what to eliminate. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck. |
