He ate paint Today we were at our new house looking around, and Rocky ate a small glob of paint off of the floor. So far to me he's seemed fine, but he had some rice for lunch w/ a little bit of soup and he threw it up (in one big chunk, like it wasn't digested) right away. It was a really small piece, so I'm not sure if I should be worried about it. Im just concerned. I would call the animal hospitals, but the other night he was sick after a shot and when I called the 24hour animal hospitals I didnt get the best service from them. Anyone know what I should do?

If he has consumed it in the last hour, I would probably call the emergency number and ask if I should induce vomiting with 1/2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide for every 5 pounds of dog to get as much out of his system as possible. If he continues to vomit or has diarrhea I would give him Pedialyte by syringe every few hours.

Rocky's actually doing fine...the paint wasn't much, both of my parents said he would be fine since it was a small amount. I called the vet and they recommended calling the poisen control, but they charge $55 for a consultation!!! Since he's been OK, I decided to wait and see if he continues to be OK, if worse comes to worse, I"ll just take him to the hospital. So far (6hrs later) I haven't noticed him acting different. I gave him some nutrical because he hasn't been eating (I'm assuming the weather) and that kicked in, so he's at my parents house playing w/ Gizmo. He even went swimming for the first time! He's running around though, and having "fun" w/ his stuffed animals, which brings up another question. Has anyones dog ever humped nothing...Rocky's toy squirrel is right next to him, and he starts moving his butt like he's humping, but he's not humping anything! It's too funny. Lacy's Mom...Thats for that vomit inducing idea...I"ll definitly remember that incase anything else happens. I feel like a paranoid mommy because I'm constinantly calling the vet about what he eats! Patti, I'm not really sure....actually I'm not sure it even was paint, it looked like it, it was dried up (looked like bubblegum), but it couldve been anything else they put in new homes. There was a bucket of paint though so I'm assuming thats it Last edited by Rae Rae; 07-15-2006 at 02:38 PM.

Sounds to me like he is doing fine and you have nothing to worry about. Just keep an eye on him - which, of course, you are doing. He may have some "different stools" for a time or two ---depending on how much paint he swallowed. But it sounds like he got "almost none." Good luck! Carol Jean

He's been fine, who knows, it couldve just been a rolled up piece of masking tape But he's been good so thats out of the way now. But yesterday, he was playing w/ my boxer and jumped up on the couch, then fell off onto his back! It was like a 1.5ft fall, btu it was on a hardwood floor. He stood up and his neck was twisted around, and he was yelping...I was so scared, just seeing his neck like that (I don't think it would twist that way normally). Me panicking and not thinking, picked up up, but he adjusted his neck and was fine, went back to running around again. I still made an appointment for him, because w/ serious falls you can have delayed injury. I hope he's OK, even though he's acting fine now. I swear like everyweek it's something new w/ him, I hope he turns out to be like my boxer, indestructable lol.
