Awww...I will Connie - and I'm just glad Maddie only has toncillitis - With the parvo scares and so many things out there - it's scary to love something this much and keep them safe. Keep us posted on Maddie ? I bet she feels better quickly on her medicine. and Chachi - I'll pm thisHunny right now - That was nice you were thinking of her    Her yorkie may need a much stronger antibiotic than what they have her yorkie on - but I'll get ahold of my friend - she's a member here, but hardly online...I know she'll talk to thishunny & share what she knows about mites. |
We hope that you feel better Maddie! Poor little girl! I'm so sorry that this happened Connie. |
Awwwww I just saw this and Connie, I am so thankful for you telling this story! I would not know what to do and would never imagine this could happen. Thank you thank you thank you (and I'll have some wine too)! Big kisses to Maddie for a speedy recovery :) |
I am sorry that Maddie has to go through because I HAVE TONSILLITIS!! This is something I have to live with for the rest of my life because I refuse to remove my tonsils. Its VERY painful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone exp a little dog. This is the first that I heard a dog having it but my thoughts are with you and Maddie!! Antibiotics will do the trick. As for the maggot...it is a bit gross but you know what? You are a good mommy that took care of it right away which means that Maddie is the luckiest dog EVER. LOTS OF HUGS FROM ME AND ZOE! |
I am so sorry this had to happen to anyone. I have not read all of the responses but it looks like you don't have to worry about any one thinking bad of you or your baby. Look at this support group you have here! I am very proud of you for telling your story and I am also very proud of YT members for backing you. I hope all is better soon and everyone gets back to being healthy again. |
Oh man. I'm just reading this now. Sorry about Maddie. I would have been grossed out too!!! I've never heard of that! How is she doing today? :getwellso |
Hey one and all...what a great bunch of people! Thanks for all the positive remarks! Maddie is feeling better. She is able to eat without making that choking sound and doesn't appear to be in much pain when she swallows! As for the sore...that is healing up very nicely and so far, I have found no more sores on her. I am rather paranoid...if I see a bug of any kind near Maddie, I am scaring it away from her! I still can't believe this happened!!! Hopefully none of you will ever have to deal with anything like that, but if you do, you probably won't be as shocked as I was, since you've now heard of it!!! LOL |
Just a little FYI Very sorry to hear the news about your Maggie. BUT, I can't believe that you wouldn't consider getting a pet if you knew this might happen. I grew up on a farm, and this happens often on both cows and horses. Yes, it's unpleasant, but more-so for your pet. Instead of dwelling on your own little personal dilemma, please realize the relief you brought to your pet by removing it. That's like saying, "If I knew how gross child-birth was, I'd never have sex!!" Geez. Sober up, grow up, and pat yourself on the back for taking your pet to the vet. The reward of a constant companion that never waivers far outweighs the negative moment that you incurred. Just a thought, rather than a 1995 Opus One, how about a weekend escape to a local venue with your special someone, and a stay at a nearby Hotel? Just a thought. Tracy |

Just wanted to say that I am glad Maddie is better!!! Trixie also had tonsilitis and had to have her tonsils removed. I did not know it was that common until I found out she had it. She was up and running the next day, she wanted to right after I picked her up from the surgery but I would not let her. She just can't stay down for long and her recovery was really fast, you woulden't have known she even had surgery! |

Just a thought:rolleyes: .....Why not save the preaching for those who really need it ? and Connie - hugs to you - there is always someone that just HAS to say something negative isn't there ? Don't let it bother you.....How is that pretty girl doing ? |
Thank you Nicole and Villette! I came upstairs from sewing until 2 AM last night and always have to take a peak at YT. When I saw that post, I was so tired, it didn't kick in until I went to bed and then I started thinking about this and wondering if I saw right...that this person had 1 post. I wanted to get back up and look again, but I was too tired. So, here I am and truly ticked! I almost wonder if it is someone that knows me and doesn't like me for some reason. Why in the world would they come on as a new member and pick my post out of the thousands of others and type a response like that? As for you, hu112bu, I don't feel I have to defend myself to the likes of you. Yes...you did manage to p*ss me off, but I will NOT dwell on it. I can do without friends like you! My Trixie143...thanks for your info on Trixie's surgery. I'm so glad she did well! I hope and pray Maddie's tonsillitis is a one time thing, but it's nice to know, if it should be a problem, that there is a quick recovery from surgery. As for my dear little Maddie...she is back...100%!!! Yipppeeeee! I noticed this a couple of days ago when she was once again so full of life and being her wild and crazy self! It truly does my heart good and puts a smile on my face!!! |

Glade Maddie is Better I just read you post about you experience with the maggot, I'm sure you were very shocked, it isn't something that we see very often. I was a dog groomer for 25 years and I have seen my share of dogs with the maggot sores. It's not a pretty site. But it happens. Try not to be too hard on yourself though. It happens, and no matter how clean one is. I'm glade Maddie is feeling better and the sore is healing nicely too. Sounds as though you have done all the right things for your baby girl. |
I’m glad to hear Maddie is well on her way to recovery. And don’t worry, this obviously has not changed the way anyone thinks of her. We all know how much you love and take care of her and that these things can happen to any pet, or ANYONE for that matter. I hope she’s back to her old self in no time. :) |

How rude, and very uncalled for too! |
Ok, maybe I'm weird, but the maggot thing just doesn't gross me out that much! I'm SUCH a wimp about any injuries/sicknesses involving humans, but for some reason, I have a stomach and nerves of steel when it comes to animals! :p Still, I understand why you hesitated to mention it! :p To me, it's funny just because sweet Maddie is one of the LAST dogs you could imagine it happening to! :p Bless her heart....she's been through a lot lately, hasn't she?! I had NO idea that dogs could get toncillitus, and WHAT?! you sd it can sometimes be caused by unexpressed anal glands?! did I read correctly?! weeeeeeird! :p What is the connection? Sorry to say, if it was our dog, the family would probably be calling her "Maggie" instead of "Maddie". ;) I'm so sorry that this has happened to you and poor little Maddie! (and sorry that some creep has left you a creepy post, too! :p) |
Poor Maddie, but don't beat yourself up. This could happen to anyone, and it doesn't in any way mean that Maddie has been neglected. I'm glad you posted it so everyone else knows to watch for something like this because who would even think it could happen? I hope you get some rest and that Maddie is feeling better soon! |
Connie: Sweetie I can't believe the nerve of that idiot with the one post. I am sure that they truly don't know who you are and it was just someone who probobly didn't get laid that day and took it out on you. If they actually knew you they would not have written that because we all know how much you love and pamper Maddie. Either way who cares about some smart ass that wants to make enemies here rather than friends. They should be banned from YT. BTW I am so glad to hear that MAddie is doing great...Hugs and kisses to the both of U!!!!! |
Connie just read this and wondered how Maddie is doing and don't beat yourself up so you would never do anything to bring harm or illness to Maddie. Hope this fines you both feeling better. Carol |
GOODNESS! Poor Maddie! Hopefully she's on the road to recovery. That is pretty gross, though! YUCK!!! Give her a kiss for us! |
Man that is just plain gross! I am glad you found it! This happened to a rabbit we use to have. She was kept inside all the time at first. Then we moved to the mountains and we had tons of shade and it was fall. We built her a nice HUGE pen outside. I only took her out on nice cool fall days to let her run a little and then she would come back in. One day I flipped her over to cradle her and love on her a bit and saw the whole"area" swollen. I didn't just find 1 maggot but I found a TON! I did the same thing that you are doing. I cleaned it with peroxide and and kept neosporin on it. It is definitely a learning experience to say the least! Since the spot you found was little it should heal in no time. It took my rabbit a long time to heal but she did and was just fine. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. It only take a split second to happen. Hope she feels better soon. Michelle |
Omg For starters, yes, we all know that Maddie has a wonderful caring and loving mommy...so don't even think anyone here says your baby is neglected. Honestly....I am with everyone, Thank You for posting this. We never get enough information on our babies and your experience here is valuable information to us all. Thank you so much for posting and letting us all in on this. This like this are unpleasant, but a fact for what can happen with our babies. We all go to this site for friendship and guidance! That's what this place is for. I am so gald that Maddie is recovering (as Mommie). Good job for getting her to the vet as you did. That, once again, shows how much you love your baby. Kudos to you! |
This happened to one of our yorkies years ago. We came home from vacation and I noticed a dried bloody spot on her neck. When I cleaned her off I noticed that she had a little hole with something moving inside it. I pushed down on it and low and behold up popped what looked like a maggot. I freaked...of course. I called the vet and he explained that they are called bore worms and they live in the grass. He said he has numerous cases each summer and she would be fine. I have not seen one since....to my pleasure. |
