My yorkie Teddy is very sick eddy is 1 1/2 years old and he weighs 4.8 lbs.He started vomiting last night and it continued today. He was and scared very listless and he felt warm so I took him to the aspca hospital this afternoon. He just wanted to play when we were in the waiting room so I thought he must be okay. When the doctor examined him she found he had 105 plus temperature. An x-ray showed that his stomach was filled with gas. The doctor said that there was no metal or plastic blocking but it could be cloth or something. I left him overnight so they could watch him. The doctor said she would call tomorrow between 8 am and 2 pm. I am very upset and scared. Any hope or prayers will be greatly appreciated. Best, Jack |
Prayers are on his way for a full recovery . |
Teddy is in my prayers. Cali went through something similar a few months ago. They thought she may have had a string in her intestines. We opted to do the surgery since she needed to be spayed and a liver biopsy. There was no obstructions just a stomach virus. So I'm sure Eddie will be much better tomorrow and he is at the best place for them to make sure he is fine. |
I hope your baby recovers quickly. |
oh no !! I hope he'll be ok and I said a prayer for Teddy.... |
Teddy is a bit better this morning The vet called and said that he was better this morning. They will try to give him a little food to see if he can hold it down. I still don't know what was wrong with him. I was wondering if some children that where playing with him om Monday might have squeezed him. Thanks for the prayers and support. JAck |
Oh, poor little Teddy. I sure hope he gets better soon. I'm saying a prayer and hoping for good news.:getwell: |

Sometimes we never know why our little dogs (or children or us) don't feel well for a day or two. But thank goodness, all of us usually get over most things. Glad your puppy is better..... Carol Jean |
Teddy is home but very lethargic I picked Teddy up at the aspca this afternoon. They said he was eating and feeling better. he seemed okay tonight until I after I fed him some boiled chicken and white rice I cooked for him. After eating he became very lethargic. He just wants to lie down in his carrier and he does not respond when I say his name. I walked him home from the vet. They said that would be okay. It's about 1 mile. He walked home and seemed fine until eating. When they discharged him they gave me instructions that say to give him small meals and to watch for any vomiting, bloody bowl movements or lethargy. They said I should call a vet if he starts vomiting or I see any blood in his poop. They do not say to call if he is lethargic. Is this to be expected? I'm going to do a search in this forum for lethargy to see how I should react. Thanks everyone, Jack |
You need to give him sugar immediately!!! Karo corn syrup, Nutrical, Nutristat, honey, plain table sugar in water - |
Sorry to hear he's still not feeling well...it is a good sign that the vet discharged him. As for the lethargy, is there any way you can call the vet and tell him what Teddy is doing? If it's to be expected, as least calling would give you some peace of mind. I pray that Teddy will be good as new very soon. :getwell: |
Sorry my first post was so abrupt - Did they run any tests or give an antibiotic? With a 105 fever there has to be something going on. |
Can you explain about the sugar? They gave me amoxi drops. What do you mean about the sugar? |
I left a reply on the board asking about the sugar that you are suggesting. Thanks, JAck |
Im so sorry Teddy has being sick. If he still lethargic after giving him the nutrical I think is best to call your vet. I will keep him in my prayers. Please keep us posted. |

Any updates on Teddy? |
The amoxi drops are probably amoxicillin which is an antibiotic. I answered your PM, sorry it wasn't right away, I had to run a quick errand. |
Update Teddy is much better. I gave him some chicken and rice a few hours ago. Only about 1/3 of what he usually eats. I might have given him to much last night. So far he seems fine and I am feeling that we will come out of this scare okay. Thanks again for all the prayers and good wishes. I don't know how I could ever get through this without an online community like this. Jack |
Anyone know of a good vet in NYC? I don't want to use the aspca again. I tried to call them last night and there was no way. They seem quite cold and I could not speak with the doctor when Teddy was being released. He felt warm and his temperature was not taken when he was being discharged. I had to insist that the technician take his temperature. Also the doctor was not very clear when I admitted him. I am going to post this request for a vet on the main board where there might be more people in the area. Jack |
