Bile Acid Test I recommend bile acid testing pre and post on all yorkies to rule out mvd or liver shunt - if mvd then control with low protein diet - my dee dee had elevated liver enzymes and for over two years no vet recommended but my current vet and he said he has it done on all yorkies to see where they stand with their liver and because we would know before any medications given. |
Pancreatitis My dexter had severe pancreatitis and it was a lot of vomitting - no diarhea - was your pup vomitting if not then it was not pancreatitis:( the test for pancreatitis is CPLI blood work as amylase and lypase enzymes do not necessarily determine pancreatitis. If your baby had a mild case of it then low fat diet for pancreas and low protein for liver issues. Ultra sound testing on pancreas is not really full proof either so true test is cpli but my experience is severe vomitting and it does not sound like yours had this. Stay away from treats if your little one is having these kinds of signs now as if pancreatitis is severe enough like my dexter had they can die. We almost lost him at 2 and it cost us almost 10k over the past year with hospitalization and now he has inflammatory bowel disease as it was so severe it affected his small intestines. He had a plasma transfusion which saved him. |
I wanted to add that typically anything over 100 indicates liver shunt and anything above normal range but below 100 could indicate MVD...But there are exceptions to these generalizations....I know of someone whose yorkie had less than 100 post meal and her yorkie did in fact have a liver shunt. |

Also mentioned WhipWorms. Just hope & Pray it doesn't happen again. It will be 2 wks Thursday since the last sickness. It happens exactly every 2 weeks 3 times in a row. |
what food are u feeding as dexter is on purina ha and that is working - it is a hydrolized diet - he has made it two months with no vomitting- potato based diet can be hard for ibd dogs to digest- if your baby is vomitting with no diarhea then small intestines and food is not digesting to the large intestine. |

At the time he was on Chicken soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul. switched to Natural Balance Potatoe & Duck for lower protein & fat thinking it would help if it was Pancreatitis. Now Canidae Lamb & Rice (also low Protein & Fat) All of my Yorkies are on Canidae & will stay on it now. I am So Happy The Pet Store will be carrying it from now on. |
Take care, Tootie and look forward to good news from the vet. Nothing better than to have an excellent doctor on your winning team. |

Hi Scruffy!!! You stay well for your mom, ya hear? |
Also wanted to say I'm sending a prayer that Tootie is fine...nothing wrong that a good dose of antibiotics won't take care of, and that he'll be able to be "fixed", neutered...soon as can be done safely... |

He just started getting Innova last week too! We have been wanting Canidae for a long time. I actually had to order my 1st bag online. Shipping price was outrageous! Have you asked your Local Pet Store to try it out? I Did - if enough people request it - they will try it out. Good Luck! |
