Our Benji hasn't eaten for 2 days Our poor Benji hasn't eaten for 2 days now, and every time he drinks water he throws it back up. He doesn't have diarrhea, in fact I haven't noticed him doing anything but pee a little bit. I know he got into the litter box a couple nights ago, do you think the clumping litter might have caused a blockage. He is only 5 months old and still chews on everything. Who knows what else he might have swallowed. It might just be a bacteria or virus as well. Any thoughts on this? How long can he go without eating? I am worried about not eating causing low blood sugar problems, even though he has never been prone to this. Is there anything I can give him in case it might be a blockage? I am not able to take him to the vet for x-rays or surgery, and we're all going to be absolutely devastated if he doesn't pull out of it. Any ideas? |
eating cat litter is harmful, especially the type that clumps up and becomes hard and can cause intestinal blockages. i would try some canned pumpkin to see if you can get things moving. if he won't eat it or it doesn't produce a bowel movement he should go to the vet first thing in the morning. |
That's what I was afraid of. I will open a can and try to get him to eat some, but he wouldn't even touch a piece of chicken at dinner time. All I can get him to do is drink water, but like I said, he throws it right back up. Thanks for the advice. |

The symptoms could be as simple as a virus or as serious as a blockage. I wouldn't wait any longer. They should be able to tell if it's a blockage with an Xray. I would think that it wouldn't cost more than 125.00 to find out. If it is a blockage it needs to be taken care of ASAP. Please take him in and let us know what they say. |
I was waiting because I don't have the money to take him to the vet, my husband hasn't had a big job for a couple months and things are critical around here right now. Every so often he will do this for a day and pull out of it, he isn't doing that this time. I will ask my daughter this morning if she can put it on her credit card, she will do it if she can, he is one of her puppies and she won't want anything to happen to him either. Thanks for your support. |
if he hasn't eatten in 2 days and he throws up water you not only have a possible blockage on your hands but you also have a very dehydrated pup. please take him to the vet. he could be blocked or very sick. he needs IV fluids |
I called my vet this morning and explained the situation and that I couldn't pay right now, and luckily she let me bring him in anyway. It wasn't a blockage - it is parvo. They usually require a $100 deposit to start treatment on that, but they knew I couldn't do that right now so they went ahead and admitted him to get him hooked up on an iv. He hasn't got the diarrhea part of it yet, so hopefully we caught it in time. I'm so worried. Please keep him in your prayers. Thank you all so much for your help and concern. I will keep you posted when I hear something. |

We will keep Benji in our prayers. Please let us know how he is doing. Patti |
I'm so glad Benji is at the vets. It's nice to hear that there are still some good vets out there that care more about the dog than the money. I was actually thinking parvo, but decided not to mention it since he didn't have diarrhea. Did he have his vaccines for parvo? Keep us updated. |
Do we have an update yet? |
No update yet, probably won't know more until tomorrow. And no, he wasn't up to date on all his shots, only had the first two, the last one was at about 12 weeks, these last few months have just been really hard financially, behind on everything, barely keeping gas in the car and food on our plates (and bowls). I am just glad the vet isn't allowing our lack of money right now to stand in the way of helping Benji. I will let you know what I find out after I call the vet's office tomorrow. |
Beings that he had a shot at 12 weeks he will probably get a lighter case of parvo and will probably pull through. We'll keep you all in our prayers. |
