Parker got fixed last Sat. They didnt give him a collar either. He is doing really well though. Hope things get better |
Does your lit' man have 2 incisions from the surgery? That strikes me as weird, I used to work at a vet office and I never saw a neuter surgery with more than one incision. I too was worried about needing a cone after surgery so I called my vet and she said that since he had internal stitches it wasn't necessary. The chances of him infecting the area were very slim from licking, but we should prevent licking as much as possible because they iodine type stuffed they sprayed on it could upset his tummy. |

I don't think you should have to pay for the second vet visit since they didn't give you any instructions for care of the incision. I also don't like conflict. I plan out what I'm going to say. If it's a person I'm comfortable with I make some kind of joke. If it's a stranger I prepare a nice statement about why I'm unhappy and what I think should be done. Something like I'm a little concerned that there should of been something I could of done to prevent this, but I wasn't made aware of any precautions I should of taken. Shouldn't the vet have told me about preventative measures or given me the cone collar right after the surgery? Most people if they value your business will try to make you happy. Just be nice & respectful it usually shocks people in this day and age and they are more willing to help. |
Maddie got an infection in her incision after being spayed. She did not come home with a collar and after I noticed her licking her incision, I went and bought onsies. Then I noticed blood and staining on the onsie, so I called the on call vet (not my regular vet). She was not nice to me and must have thought I was an overprotective pet owner. Maddie was very listless and not herself at all. So, that next morn at 8 (Saturday) I called the vets office to get an appointment. My luck it was the vet I had talked to the prior night. They told me I could have a work in appointment and I was there by 8:15. No one else was there waiting and I got right in. The first thing the vet said was, "She looks bright eyed." I know she thought Maddie was fine and I was overreacting, but then she saw the incision and discharge and sure enough it was infected. I was billed over twice as much for a regular appointment which ticked me off. I called and talked to the office manager and told her I didnt think that was fair...that this was a result of surgery and should be considered aftercare. That office manager talked to my regular vet (it is his clinic) who wrote the charge off. If I had been able to see him, he wouldn't have charged me a cent. I don't think you should be charged ANYTHING for a return visit...that should be considered post surgery and included in the surgery charge. It's worth questioning! JMO I hope and pray your sweetie has a quick recovery and feels great soon! |
I hope Cash is OK.Peanut got fixed on April 11, 2006. After two days we noticed he was red down there. Took him back and they put a collar on him.Vet said to keep it on him for 10days. I said Peanut is a very Hyper dog. So the Vet said OK only for another week. They didnt charged me for the office visit or the collar. It was a re-check so no charge for visit. You can get the collars at Petsmart or Petco. Hugs and kisses from Peanut and Thumper! :getwellso |
Hey everyone!! So, Cash does have an infection, I was given an antibiotic to give to him. I said with such curiosity, "Do you usually give dogs a cone to wear when they have surgery"? He says, well we do and we don't, he says these little guys get really scared when you put that on them and I don't want to scare them more than they already are...I said ok, cool... I said he's licking all the time, so he gave me some banguard, and I haven't noticed him licking, I still see white on there CHACHING!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! lol I also said, is there a charge to get rechecked, he says, Nahh, no charge... YES!!!!!!! Because usually there IS! YEAH!!! I was sooo happppyyyyyy!! LOL THanks for alll your help ladies!!! You rock! |

Thanks!! Yeah, doc said that they need to take that out when the pup can't get it out of the canal because of cancer reasons... said that recovery time is longer for them because of having to go in like that.... Hope Gizmo does fine when he gets neutered!! Can you post any pics of them? |
What exactly is Banguard? Sounds like a great alternative to cones or onesies. I have never heard of it. Is it over the counter or by prescription only? |
