I found this online about gum colors: Healthy gums are firm and pink. Pale gums are a sign of ill health such as Parasites, Chronic Blood Loss and Anemia. Bluish Grey gums are seen in Shock and Dehydration. Redden gums are a sign of Gingivitis (Gum Infection). |
I would get the pup to another vet. I dont think grey gums is anything I would mess around with. |
Yes she has been eating, drinking, peeing, and pooping. She is acting fine now and jumping around. |

Thanx, we are taking her to the vet tommoro, and Skeeter (our 11 week old) on Wednesday. Thanx everyone for all of your help!! |
:aimeeyork I'm glad to hear your little one is drinking and eating and I'm even more glad to hear you're taking to the vet! Hope everything turns out well. |
Glad she is better. Please keep a close eye on her and make sure she is getting food and water and nutrical. They can go down so fast and then it's too late. |
Ok another question, the breeder said to give her cottage cheese for her ears to perk up. Should we feed her cottage cheese or not? |
Should I feed her cottage cheese or just give her a little. Were not sure what to do. And she cant really eat, nor does she like dry food is there anything I can feed her at the moment until we can get her some canned food? |
Some vets do not believe that hypoglycemia occurs (with yours saying over the phone that is probably not the case makes me think yours is one of them). It will probably continue until the pup is about 3 or 4 months. You will have to make sure it doesn't get overtired, eats small meals regularly, and is given nutrical or nutristat 3x a day. As for the pale gums...???, I would see a vet. If you are unable to be with the pup at all times, I would see if the breeder would let it stay with Mom for a few more weeks. |
The cottage cheese thing is an old wives tale. Surely it' won't hurt for the extra calcium. But with the nutrical, I'd give it 3 times a day just to keep the blood sugar up. Once these little ones start bottoming out, it goes pretty quick. |
Grey gums is not a good thing! I am glad to hear that you are taking her to the vet! please keep us updated on how she is doing! She must be so tiny! |
sounds like you should go out and buy some puppy formula to get you through the night, and go under forum search for puppy pudding. grey gums aren't good. hopefully the vet can help you out, but if you aren't happy with his feedback or don't feel good about it, definately get a second opinion. don't leave her alone over night, she is too young and needs to be checked on and fed often. good luck!! keep us updated!!! |
Well she seams to be doing fine, shes been eating very well. Shes VERY playful. Jumping around and playing with our 11 week old. So I guess shes ok, but we cant get her to the vet til tursday. |
oh my god six weeks, that poor little angel shouldnt be seperated from her mother! Did you get her from a reputable breeder? I cant think why that breeder would let her go to a new home aged 6 weeks. You shouldnt have bought her until she was older.I do hope she is alright? |
