My beautiful pup that I lost in January LOVED tuna (she passed away from something unrelated to the consumption of the stuff!) I used to open a can and divide it between the cat and the dog...it was one of her favorite snacks. |
Autism, Mercury, Tuna I was reading ya'll's posts on the autism, mercury and tuna. I found a website supporting the evidence of the link between autism, tuna and mercury needing to be urgently studied. Here is a clip from the website: Pregnant women who eat tuna could be putting their unborn children at risk of developing autism, according to research by US scientists. At a hearing in Washington, researchers said they believed high levels of mercury in oily fish, including tuna and swordfish, could be behind the rising incidence of child autism. Mady Hornig, an epidemiologist at Columbia University in New York, who was giving evidence to a panel of the Institute of Medicine, which advises the US Government on health, said the effects of mercury in fish should be urgently investigated. However, there are no limits on other fish, including canned tuna, the standards body said. Canned tuna contains much lower mercury levels because a different and younger species is harvested. Hope this helps! |
I dont see where the poster talks about autism? Am I missing something here? |
Oops Somehow I got on another thread! I'm so sorry! I'll try to find the right one! Thanks! |
Fresh tuna is fine, but please don't feed canned tuna. There is way too much sodium in canned tuna for our furbabies. |
I have to coment to the Tuna, and autism connction... YES, I too have a child who is high fuctioning autistc teenaged boy. Their are many therios out there about autism , and most of it is unsubstaneited , and need to be further investigated. Since their is no cure for Autism scientisits are still trying to unlock the mystery . AS for feeding tuna to dogs, i personnally would not do it. I do not think it is good for them. And tuna breath is stinky  |

You can also give frozen white fish (cod, sole, tilapia, trout, whiting, pollock etc) and salmon. If giving white fish, keep in mind it is much leaner than meat - if giving salmon, keep in mind it is leaner than meat, but fattier than whitefish. :) |
collapsing traches I have 2 yorkies and one is in real distress with his breathing due to collapsing trachea and bronchus. Any input on how to help with this problem will be greatly appreaciated. It is breaking my heart becaue I cannot help him breathe. |
I sometimes drip a little bit of the tuna water on her kibble... Chewy loves the added flavor. |
Try canned salmon instead Canned wild pink salmon is a low mercury fish. Trader Joe's has a "no salt added" variety that you might want to check out. |

I don't know anything about CT - but you can do a search on this forum for CT or collapsing trachea and probably come up with a lot of information. |
