I know how frigntening this must be. You need to find out the vet around that specializes in small breeds. I really don't trust any other kind with a toy. Some things that might be dismissed with a larger dog can kill a toy. The blood thing is not good. I know that stress sometimes can cause this but it's been going on far too long on this baby. Even if it is stress it needs to be taken care of. I think they will sometimes give Alabon (?) for this, I have heard. Anyone know about this drug? The last vet that siad she is in heat is not a good dr. Don't ever go to him again! Hoping to hear good news from you soon. |
update... I just got back from the (new) vet - snickers tested positive for guardia they called it a "very positive" i guess she has had this for awhile which really upsets me seeing we have been to the vet every week since i got her.... the new vet was wonderful... will call on monday to check up on her... and gave her 2 different meds and did some other tests as well as sending home special food to mix in w/her food until she is better thanks for all the help on here and hopefully nothing else comes back positive our old vet wont be seeing us again... |
I am sorry your vet didnt test him for that. That was one of the first things thought maybe it was when I read your post. Good thing he is on the meds now and will get better soon. Thanks for the update. |
Wow, thank goodness! You finally have an answer to poor Snickers problem, and it can be treated! The poor baby will finally begin to recover! You are such a great yorkie owner to get another opinion!! Congrats on your good judgement! :p Get well soon, little Snickers! :getwellso |
thanks so much... for the responses... she tested positive for the giardia in the office but they are treating her for acute colitis too and its possible she has coccidiosis too but they didnt want to give her any more meds then they already are so they are starting with the 2 they sent home for a 10d cycle and the special food i hafta mix w/her reg stuff and then the vet will call monday and a recheck in 2wks if she isnt any better they are going to do the other cycle of meds for the coccidiosis too everyone is so helpful and supportive here thanks for the advice :) |
I'm glad you changed vets. Giardia is such a common problem I can't believe your first vet didn't diagnose it. Be sure and do a followup to make sure it is 100% cured - sometimes it takes several treatments to clear up. |

Cocidia only requires a liquid Albon. This is very soothing on the tummy and can also help with stress. Which can cause this to rear it's ugly head. I see no problem giving Albon with anything else. |

i'm not sure why they want to wait on the meds then... they just advised me to come back in 2wks and then start the second treatment unfortunately i am a little new at this and i read alot of stuff but ultimately end up deferring to the vet unless they seem way off or if i have a bad gut feeling (like with my 1st vet) i will ask her about it tho when i call them to update them on how snickers is doing (which isnt too well to be honest) thanks! |
my yorkie had the same problem she would have bright red blood in her poo and sometimes jelly stuff the vet said she had irritable bowel and gave her some tablets. i also gave her just plan chicken for a week to help her tummy settle which worked. if your dog has got this they will always have it but with the right diet they will be fine. :) |
Aughhhhh That Vet Is Confused 2 Attachment(s) Oh my i think your Vet is having a BRAIN MALFUNCTION i would look for another VET asap. Maybe read you dog food label to see if it has DYES and Natural Flavoring or Flavors which can cause bleeding in the colon. Milk products can do this also or chicken ect. I feed Bill Jac and never have probs with it yet But when i tried to introduce other brands i had the bloody poohs..... I also feed Organic Buffalo hamburger they love it and no poopy prob even with 3week old babies. Hope your babie is OK>>> |
YEAH so happy your baby is going to be ok.. Nice to see you changed Vets i was really getting worried.... We will be waiting for your next post to hear how things are going... |
she is still sick... she is due to go back to the vet next friday but she is still bleeding around the house i noticed i am not sure the antibiotic they gave is working - she is taking that in combination w/a dewormer she wasnt eating for a day or so (or barely eating) now she is back to eating but wont eat the special food the vet sent home to mix in w/her reg food she just eats around it any suggestions? |
hmm im not sure what to tell you since she isn't eating everything she is supposed to. i just wanted to wish you luck, you might ought to call your vet pretty soon again and just let them know what is going on. i hope she responds to the treatment well! keep us posted |
