| Ok strange ?..can dogs catch what we have? The past few days me and my boys have all been sick. Bad cough, congestion, etc... well all of a sudden just now, daisy walked into my room, and went limp on the ground! Didn't pass out, just went real limp. Took me about 3 minutes to get her to stand on her own. Tried giving her some water, but wouldn't take it (but ate fine earlier) after standing still for about 3 more minutes (not ocming to me or anything) she threw up. Didn't notice anything in it really but her food. Now she seems better, is walking around and such. Im wondering if maybe she ate something that bothered her stomach (i have to stay SUPER on top of things around here with my boys always dropping something on the floor!) She's alittle out of sorts right now...not sure what I should do? Im gonna call the vet and ask them what to watch out for......I hate to take my son out who has croup to the vet, but will if needed. Ive just never experienced this and it scared me to death!

| I have asked my vet the same thing he said NO, we can't catch what they have and they can't catch what we have. But I would still call and get her in, sounds strange.

| The age old question......one vet told me NO and another said maybe....not that they may catch a cold germ or something, but they might catch something in the air (allergies, dry air, etc) that may cause them to have symptoms as we do. I think there is another thread on this topic too, if you want to use the search button and get more info. I would call your vet....what you said is happening sounds odd.....and I wouldn't chance it by not knowing what is happening. Good luck and keep us posted.

| No - dogs cannot catch most of the illnesses (colds, flu, etc) that we have. And - we can't catch what dogs have. There is a scientific term called a "species barrier" .... this means that most illnesses and diseases that any species has cannot be transmitted to a different species. The only real exception is when a disease mutates or changes. This sometimes makes it possible for a different species to catch it. This is the real fear with the Avian flu.... if this disease mutates and becomes a disease that can be passed on to people and then from one person to another - this could become a worldwide disaster . So far, a few people have contracted the bird flu - but it has not yet become something that one person can pass on to another person. If course, animals and people can be sick at the same time - but this is really only a coincidence....they have not caught what they have from one another. So - sneeze your head off around your dog - he can't catch your cold. Carol Jean |
