Gidget is injured! Well I have not been on for a little while because last night gidget fell off our porch and hurt herself real bad. We are not sure exactly what happened, we put her and Gizmo out to potty and when I came back in to get my coat and went back out (like two minute period) she was lying on the ground limp. There was a little blood coming from her mouth and nose, and she was gasping for air. I was horrified! I didn't know what to do! I just grabbed her and ran to the van and took her to the ER vet. I was just sure that she was not going to make it there. I got her there at 5:40 and the clinic didn't open til 6. But I guess there was an angel watching out for us. Because I hadn't been there for a minute when the technition came pulling into the parking lot. I jumped out and begged her to help me! Tears were just streaming down my face! She let me in and checked some vitals. By this time the bleeding had stopped and she was still breathing, the vet came in a few minutes later and she took her to x-ray and came and told me that she didn't have any broken bones. But she was in shock. So they did some blood work and that came back ok. The only thing that was a little off was her liver test. So she said that she could possibly have a liver shunt :( . I don't know much about that. But they did another test on that and it came back fine. So she said that it was up to me wether or not I want to get the blood test to test for the shunt. But they said that it would take a few weeks to come back. I think I may go ahead and get that done later on when she is better. But they kept her through the night and she was eating and drinking for them. The vet made her a little neck brace because she seems to be having some trouble holding up her head. They are not sure, but they think she may have an injury to her neck that just didn't show up on her tests. So they said that it is improving. But they just want to keep it stable for a few more hours. I have to take her back to my regular vet this afternoon for a follow up. My poor little girl! We have only had her for a week today. And she has gone through this already! :( I am just so happy that she made it through this. God Bless my little girl, and please say a prayer for her quick recovery. |

My Gidgets accident My little Gidget fell through the basement stairs when she was a few months old and landed on the concrete. it was about a 6 ft fall. She was screaming and we went to the er and I didn't think she was going to make it. She was foaming at the mouth, throwing up, lethargic. I was so scared and crying telling my husband I thinks she's dying but all was ok. It's sooo scary these freak accidents |
Heather - I think it's wonderful that she is eating and drinking. She will have her strength back in no time. I'm so sorry you had such a scare, these little furbabies no how to keep us on the edge. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery. Kim |

Hope Gidget gets better soon its so scary when something happens to them , we will be thinking of you. |
Oh Heather, My heart sank as I read this. When I got my little Yogi, he was only 15 weeks old and loved to sit with his little paws over the back of my left shoulder ( still does), I always hold him up there with my right hand and he jumped very quickly over my back onto our ceramic tile floor, I am 5'4" and landed on his shoulder. He shreiked an shreiked and I screamed and cried, picked him up and went to the Vets office for X-rays. He had a hairline fracture on his upper arm and only received pain meds and time, but I stayed up with him for several night and felt so bad it happened to him. He's 11 months old now and still trys to jump off my shoulder! He prefers to sit up there at all times. Little Devil ;) Please keep posting on how Gidget is doing.., Steph They are very resiliant |
Heather, my heart did a flip when I read this post.. I am glad to hear Gidget is doing better and pray she will be a healthy little brat really soon. Please continue to watch her for any signs of staggering or stumbling and stuff. I bet she is just sore all over just like we hoomans when we have a good (BAD!) fall. Lots of TLC and, as we ole nurses say, tincture of time will help loads.. Give her smoochies from Rini's cuties.. |
So glad she will be ok. NOw you need a hug for going through this! It's really scary when you see blood coming out of the mouth, thinking it's internal injuries. But she may have just scrapped herself or bit her own lip. Keep us posted. |
Well she has been a bit more active this afternoon. I put her in a baby play pen so she could walk around if she wanted. She even cried when I shut the door the room. So of course I opened it again! :D She is stumbling a little sometimes when she walks. But it is much better than it was last night. She is holding her head up much better too. She seems to be peeing an awful lot, but I think it could have just been from the fluids they gave her last night and this morning. Thanks for all your thought!!! I will keep you posted on her progress! I forgot to tell you all that last night when I found her, it was 28 degrees outside. I didn't even get shoes before I left. Just a t-shirt, and shorts, no socks. So I looked like a complete idiot waiting to hear something about her. It sucked so bad I was freezing! Then when I was leaving to come home last night. I ran out the door and opened my van door, when I did, It smacked me right in the forehead! So I have a huge bruse on my head now! I don't think I could have had any worse luck! LOL I'm just so thankful she is better!!! I really thought we lost her! My heart was in my throat! |
Hi Heather!! I just read this and I about fell over!! I am so glad that she is doing alright....we hope she gets better soon. (Please keep us all posted). I am sure that no one thought anything of you in your shorts and tee!!! We have all been there before with an emergency and we all know what was going through your head....as I am sure the vet did too......now, other people......who cares!! HA! We just hope that you and Gidget are okay. Mojo and I are sending hugs and kisses and get well wishes! |

I am so glad your little girl seems like she is doing so much better. Sure hope she has a speedy 100% recovery with no problems. God bless our little ones. |
I just read your post and so glad things are working out. Giz came home today and all the peeing IS from the IV, we had the same. Just keep her close and give her lots of love. They ask so little of us and give so much in return. Gizmo sends puppy hugs and slurps. Sounds like she is one lucky kid to have such a good mommy. :) |
OMG Heather !! I just now saw this and really hope she's ok ! What a terrible scare for you and I would have just freaked out ....Poor girl - is she better now ? No signs of aftereffects ? PLEASE give that girl a GENTLE hug from me and one for you too.....that was so scary to read and you have my prayers she is going to be just fine ! |
