help!my son and gate fell on my puppy! I just got the "real" story a half hour ago... my son fell into our gate that we have up for the puppy when we leave the house and both the gate AND my son landed on the dog... i had noticed she was real quiet after i came down from my shower and asked the kids what was up but they were really quiet... snickers seems ok but is really quiet and not herself need some advice please!!! |
Watch her closely, does she act like anything hurts? Watch to make sure she eats and drinks, and walks normally, and act like herself, if not, you might wanna get her checked out,, for internal things.. |
Does the puppy yelp or whine when you touch her like she has a broken bone or anything? Maybe you should take the puppy to the vet just to be safe! |
She doesnt yelp or whine but she was really quiet and didnt "seem right" its kind of hard to say. I'm just not sure what to do i am afraid she got hurt but its hard to tell... has anyone ever had something like this happen? Are there little ones ok? |
Hmmm..... i would take her to the vet just so he can check her over. |
i am at work now do you think she will be ok until i get home tonite to take her to the vet or should i leave work? sorry for the questions she is my first puppy... |
If it was me, I'd take her ASAP to the vet. I remember a while back a yorkie that died from the same kind of accident. She may just be traumatized and that's why she's quiet, but at the same time, she may have internal injuries that don't appear from the outside. I don't mean to scare you, but she needs to be checked out right away. |
 I agree with Terri ~ she needs to get to the vet right away. You will never forgive yourself if anything happens to her, and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Yorkies are tough little critters, but a gate and a boy are pretty heavy objects to land on a little furbaby. :( |

No dont wait till you get home from work to take her to the vet! You never know what will happen. Better to be safe then sorry!! Please take her to the vet ASAP and keep us updated. |
I agree, I would take her to see a vet ASAP...you never know what kind of injury she could have!!! It could be serious or could be nothing at all, but with these little guys you can never be too safe....they can go down so quicky!!! |
Going to the Vet... Snickers is going to the vet at 12:45 (eastern time) I will post back and let you know how she made out.... i just feel terrible about the whole thing! i hope she is ok... the vet will definately know if anything is wrong internally yes??? |

I'm glad you're taking her in. How big is she and how big is your son. Does he know if she was pinned under him and or the gate. I tmight help to know more details when you go to the vet. |

Oh thank goodness!! Good news!! Excellent! Aren't you a great furmom to take her in?? Nicely done! Poor baby, just needs to get over the trauma, I am guessing. Lots of hugs and cuddles ought to do the trick!! :p |

Im glad to hear shes okay :) :) |
I am so glad she is okay and hope you will move the puppy's area away from the kids....Accidents can happen so fast and often not have such a favorable outcome. You must be so relieved. |
We had an incident yesterday with our baby & son too. I know how worried you feel for both your human and furry kids. Its a terrible feeling. |
GREAT NEWS  :D i knew your baby was going to be ok :D |
I just love a happy ending! :p |
Great! I'm so happy that everything is ok. I'm sure you are so relieved, now you can relax. I can only imagine your worry, we all would have done the same. Had you NOT gone, you would be paranoid, by her every move, wondering, better safe than sorry. :) |
thanks SO much everyone here is great - much thanks from me and snickers...she is still a lil on the "quiet" side but she will get lots of hugs and kisses. i usually gate her in the kitchen/bathroom area because its a large area for her when i leave for work and/or when the kids are a bit riled up to protect her - the area has lots of space and her crate/bed/food etc... it never occured to me she would get hurt from the gate tho i will have to rethink how i have things set up but my son was very upset so i am thinking in the future we will ALL be a little more aware and careful i feel so much better and thanks so much... you guys are great i am so happy to have snickers in our home and as part of our family i would have felt terrible if she was to get harmed in any way... being new to having a yorkie puppy makes for a lot of questions and it was nice that everyone was quick to respond its amazing how quickly we get attached to our furbabies and how much they just become one of our children |
I'm so glad she's ok :) and I bet your poor son feels so bad....It's nice to see a good ending because gates can do some damage - She must be still a little shook up and I hope she gets back to her normal self soon.... I wanted to say hi to a fellow Rhode Islander ! I grew up there was just there for a week last August...I sure miss that pretty state. |
One thing you might consider is the kind of gate that bolts into the wall and you swing open like a door. Those pressure gates are just so unreliable. (As you found out today) I'm so glad everything turned out ok. Poor little Snickers, sounds like you've got yourself a "tough guy". Glad to hear it! |
