Parvo! My beautiful little Miss Gracie was diagnosed with Parvo yesterday. She is so sick, I keep looking at her to make sure she is breathing. She gets and IV three times a day, an antibiotic twice a day and an antinausea medicine 3 times a day. She is 6 months old, weighs 6 pounds. What I don't understand is that she has had all of her shots - all on schedule, and she has not been anywhere with any other dogs except my own - who have also had all their shots. I am so sick about this! Please put her in your prayers. |
Oh that's terrible and I'm so so sorry :( ....I hope she'll be ok and it sounds like you're doing what you can....prayers for your little Gracie are on the way....Good luck |

I'm so sorry for your little Gracie. You and she will be in my prayers. |
Poor little Girl , i hope she seels better soon ! |
So sorry to hear this! Parvo virus is very nasty :( 8 years ago my little girl of 14 (yorkie) passed away from parvo, she too had all her shots as we are very strict with that, the vet could not understand it either. Strange thing was that my other 2 yorkies we had then too also did NOT get it thank goodness. The baby that passed was the eldest of the 3. Your baby is in my thoughts, she has a good age and all so im sure she will be ok. If you would like to talk to a member of this board that has been through it with her puppy at that age and recovered completly you could PM ( Kelseymydog ) she will be happy to help you :) |
I am so sorry to hear Gracie has parvo. I hope and pray she pulls out of it. Shots is not a 100% safe guard against any disease, we just hope and pray it works on our. :( |
Oh dear! I sure hope your furbaby gets better soon! :( |
They just had on the news this morning (Washington, DC) about an increase of Parvo in dogs in a couple areas of DC. The Humane Society put out an alert to all dog owners warning them of this outbreak. It is scary that your dog can be protected with the vacine, and yet, that is not even fail safe. You and Gracie are in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted on her progress. |

I'm so sorry! My prayers are with you for a quick and complete recovery. Does anyone know how Parvo is transmitted. I know I never put either of my dogs on the foor at the vets becasue I don't want them to pick something up there. |
I'm so sorry to hear this. It absolutely breaks your heart to see them go through this. I lost a little boy yesterday to parvo, he was only 14 weeks and 1.6 lbs. I didn't even have him 48 hours before I had to take him to the vet. You have several things on your side with her being older and weighing more. Someone recommended Parvo Guard to me, but it was little to late in my case. What I read on it I was impressed and apparently they can ship it next day air. Good Luck and I'm sending prayers to you and your little one. Kim |

The parvo vaccine is not fullproof protection and in some cases can even give the dog the disease. I am so sorry Gracie is sick and I hope she recovers quickly. |

I am so sorry for you and your little Miss Gracie. :cry8: I hope she gets better. I will pray for you both. This parvo thing is really scary. I didn't know it was possible to get after vaccinations! How is parvo trasmitted? Is it just like a virus they can pick up? Vaccinations can actually give the disease?? What is going on?? |
Welcome to YT. I am so sorry to hear about your baby and you. I agree with those that say her age and weight will be a blessing in this case. I am so reluctant to take my babies anywhere and NEVER allow strangers to pet them. I have a sign that says DO NOT TOUCH and if I take a puppy ANYWHERE, especially the vet, I pin it to their blankie. Never put your Yorkie is the cart at a pet shop. Pet Smart and others have a vet clinic attached which automatically means SICK dogs. NEVER put them on the floor to walk around. And, puppy classes in those places? FORGET IT! An outbreak of PARVO closed our county animal control shelter a few years ago. A breeder in DC area sold many puppies who HAD been vaccinated (she said) and they became infected. anyhow. They gave NeoPar at 4 weeks but didn't work. Turns out it was in the soil of her horse farm and it was tracked in const. How was your baby diagnosed? Did the vet find the virus? I am asking because as YorkieRose and i remember, a few years ago show crud made its rounds and several dogs were lost. Also, I bought 2 puppies who carried campylobacter-had they been treated as parvo they would not have survived. Thanx to Pat, I knew enough to ask my vet to check and treat for campy. Turned out that was the culprit. Now, that I have hi-jacked your thread, I do apologize; but I wanted to get this info out. Now, I will go look for Parvo Gard. And, say prayers for your baby..and those in charge of her care.. |
You and your baby will be in my thoughts and prayers :) |
I have BIG issues with this parvo virus because i have lost a baby in the past to this NASTY virus, i just read something about Parvo Guard, could somebody please explain what it is and where to get it ?? I would not be able to deal with it twice! |
That is so scary, But I'm sure you caught it in its early stages and I'm sure she will recover quickly. Many years ago I took in a stray and she eneded up having parvo. I was young and couldn't afford the vet bills and the vet and I bartered, I cleaned his pool he helped my dog. Well anyway I remember hand feeding her boiled chicken and rice. She did survive and grew up to be a really good dog. And I'm sure this will be gracie's outcome too! |
Oh no. . . . there seems to be a lot of sick yorkies being posted lately. It is so depressing! :( :( :( Parvo is really bad from what I have heard and read so I hope Gracie will pull through. As much as I know the dangers of Parvo, I cannot not have my Tiger have a life that restricts him from being held and be playful to others, not have him socialize with other dogs, to enjoy a stroll down Petsmart's isle (this he really loves) or perhaps take him to the park (haven't done it yet but maybe when it is warmer) to run wild (on a leash of course! :D ). I have read that I can be a carrier and bring Parvo home to him if I happen to step on feces/urine of a dog that has the disease . . . so whether his exposure to the world is limited or otherwise, there is no guarantee our babies from getting sick. So I continue to be cautious so I can have him for as long as his life permits it, but I also want him to have a wonderful and full life . . . . Life is just too short and I will not deprive him of that while he is alive. He brings me so much joy and therefore I want to make sure I do the same for him! |

Also, I bought 2 puppies who carried campylobacter-had they been treated as parvo they would not have survived. Thanx to Pat, I knew enough to ask my vet to check and treat for campy. Turned out that was the culprit. The vet took a swab from her behind and ran a Parvo Antigen Test and said it was positive. I am going to look up campylobacter and see what that is. Thanks for the information. Miss Gracie is about the same today - she has not eaten anything - I made her boiled chicken and rice and she wouldn't even look at it. Thank you for all the thought and prayers. |
So sorry about your Gracie  Parvo is a terrible disease. I always thought it was mostly a summer time thing. My prayers & positive thoughts are with you. |
I am so sorry. It is really hard to watch them go through any kind of sickness. I couldn't imagine being in your shoes having to watch this disease happen to your little Miss Gracie. Please know my heart goes out to you and I have been praying for you. Monkey and Lil Maddie send little puppy kisses to her. I hope she starts feeling better soon. :( |
Not sure if this will help, but when we had a pup with Parvo, we were told to feed her sweet acidophilos yogurt. She was a German Shepherd pup, and of course much bigger then a Yorkie pup, but it really did seem to help. I was also told that it is important to keep something in their stomach. The beauty of the yogurt was that we could feed it with a tablespoon and it slid down her throat before she could object. You might ask your vet if this would be something to try. Along with the yogurt we also gave her imodium, and had to give her shots of ringers lactate, under the skin to keep her hydrated. I think they call that bolluses, not sure though. The vet thought she would do better at home with our constant care, and with her mom then at the vets office in a cage. She did beat the illness and became a great dog, in fact she is right here, will turn 10 years old the 21st of this month. |
Im so sorry your baby is sick. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. |
