Yorkie Yakker | Cough? My yorkie has been "coughing" with the gagging at the end. Happens at night and of course when pulling on walks. I use a so called no choke harness. The sound is more like honking than coughing?

| That sounds like collapsing trachea. You need to go to the vet. It could just be a flare up that requires steroids for a week or so or it could be just straight up collapsing trachea but there are medications for it.

| A honking cough can be a symptom of collapsed trachea. It can also be “reverse sneezing” which is common among small dogs and can have a number of causes. And it can be caused by Kennel Cough. It’s impossible to diagnose without a visit to the vet. One suggestion: since coughing can be sporadic, your pup might not cough during a vet visit. Before your appointment, try to get a video of the coughing on your phone, and offer to forward it to the vet. Then he/she can see and hear what is concerning you. |
