| Dogfood For Mushy Stools I was wondering if anyone could suggest a prescription dogfood. Here is my dilemma, Kinder is allergic to chicken, egg, and has had calcium oxalate crystals. I bring her in every three months and have her get a sterile urine. For two years now no calcium oxalate crystals and I bought her an elevated water dish because she never drank water this really helped her. The vet put her on Hills ID Rice and Egg for a year. I had to add water to the food and it worked great til last summer she was having mucous covered stools. She was not sick so my vet put her on Hills ZD and that has been great good stools . This past December I gave her an Oravet chew and she got severe diarrhea and blood. Got her in and tests showed pancreatis from the Oravet chew. My vet said to keep her on the Hills ZD she did not want to change her food and no more chews. I did notice she was having a little diarrhea from those chews and I should of stopped them. Now the problem is I have to feed her three meals a day which I always have through her life she sometimes has four poops a day getting mushy. The vet gave me Sulcrafate and Metronadazole for an emergency if the diarrhea gets bad and blood. Last night she had a mushy big poop then staring diarrhea. I do not want her on Metronadazole unless it was serious. I gave her a 0.2 mm of pepto and it cleared her up and she is great this morning .Eating good and drinking good and playful. She will be ten years old April 3 and never had stool problems all her life. Would anyone know what food lower in fat would be good for her she is allergic to egg, chicken ,and was a calcium oxalate fur baby. Also I know pepto is not good for a dog but she has been checked out several times. What could I give for the replacement of Pepto she weighs 6.2 pounds. We are in Arizona now and will be going home in April I was thinking of bringing her to the Iowa Vet School Of Medicine. She is doing great but has these flare ups and I wonder if it is her food. I appreciate any suggestions and we are good pet parents . I am thankful we have PetPlan Insuranece that has been great .She is our baby we love her. I also heard Imodium is better than pepto. My last yorkie had genetic IBD and pepto worked wonders. Also her bloodwork is perfect that is why we think it is the food. Susan Last edited by Susan78; 03-03-2020 at 09:15 AM. |

| Diarhea Treatment Hello Susan, I just wanted to say that my Joey had problems with diarrhea while he was alive and my vet said that Immodium was better than Pepto. It did seem to help along with the special food as he never got completely rid of having the diarrhea problem. Thought you might want to know that. I hope things improve for your little one.

| Thanks so much for helping me. Last Tuesday I called the vet and told the tech I think the Prescription Diet ZD is the problem. She talked to the doctor and she felt with her egg and chicken allergy plus calcium oxalate crystals to keep her on this food. I have to give her half a teaspoon unflavored Metamucil no diet sugar morning breakfast and supper. I add water always for her three meals a day and it has been two years since she had any crystals. Anyways what a blessing most of her poops are like a tootsie roll. Sometimes she will have a firm one with a little mucous. The tech said she is not getting enough fiber in this food so we are trying this. We are finally getting some sleep at nights because she was up all night pooping.I have to call the tech back in two weeks and I will see the vet on the end of the month because she gets the bordatella vacine. Kinder is so happy now. Susan |
