Hi there, I have a 6 year old yorkie named mia. I just left the vet with her.. she has some dental issues going on and needs multiple teeth pulled. HOWEVER, my vet informed me that she will not treat my dog unless she has her rabies shot done. Little background here.. Mia had a sister.. Coco, coco had a rabies shot done and had an adverse reaction- and ultimately seized to death. Therefor I do NOT feel comfortable having a rabies done on my 5 lb dog. I voiced this to the vet and she wouldn’t budge.
So now I need to find a really good vet in the Orange County area, or surrounding areas. I am extremely nervous to have her put under for a dental and really need to find a vet I feel comfortable with doing her dental safely. I’ve heard so many horror stories and I just want to make sure I get her the best care possible. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Rabies is the law so your not going to find one that will do it. If you give Benadryl before hand there is very little chance of a reaction. The reaction your describing is very rare and not likely to be genetic. Due to the fact that bad teeth not only cause pain they can cause heart and other organ issues you need to give Benadryl get the rabies shot and then the dental.
