one sickness leads to something else So yesterday afternoon my mom gave Callie her liquid pain medicine for me and Callie some how aspirated it into her nasal passages and had lots of sneezing and wheezing but it would stop and start. Benadrly made it mostly stop completely. Anyway I was up all night with her and on the phone with the vet as soon as they opened and took her in. Vet heard nothing in the chest and feels it is her nasal passages that are inflamed and to give benadryl every 8 hours and watch her for a few days. If not getting better or better in a few days then she needs to be seen again. Well I opted for chest x-rays anyway because something just told me to do it and no fluid but her heart is enlarged. The enlarged heart has nothing to do with her issues she went in for though. So after she is better from this she needs to go see a cardiologist and get a sonogram of her heart done. I am so very stressed right now. My vet says that there is a common thing that yorkies get as they age where one of the flaps to the heart gets thickened and doesn't close all the way and that we might be looking at that but we wont know until the sonogram is done. Prayers and good thoughts for Callie would be great. Thank you. |
Poor Callie, poor you, keeping both you and Callie in my thoughts and prayers HUGS |
Prayers for you and Callie. Please keep us posted. Know how stressful this is for you - not knowing exactly what is wrong and what to expect. |
Thanks everyone. Right now she’s kinda pathetic due to the Benadryl but her breathing is pretty much normal. I have looked up the place my vet wants me to go for her heart and I got an estimate so working on that. I also have to figure out if I need someone to come stay with my grandmother when we go or not because it is a bit of a drive. I’m so stressed right now because everything is happening at once. Penny is due for her DAP this month, Ollie is messing with his tail a lot, I run out of heart guard this month, my dads birthday, and Christmas. I told my mom I might just have to let people know that I am having money issues and my babies come first so I can’t give gifts this year and I understand if everyone just wants to skip over me this year. |
Try not to worry about "everything"...easier said than done, I know. Hoping for good news on Callie, and that it turns out to be something that is age-related, and can be managed. Anyone who knows you will understand your love and devotion to your babies...and their well-being certainly over-rides any gifting stresses. (Wants vs needs). Those who care about you will expect you to attend to the needs of your furbabies, and don't worry about reciprocity. Please take a deep breath, and know that there are those who are supporting you! (((hugs))) |
Well she has not had any Benadryl since midnight and is doing ok. She is still a bit lethargic and occasionally a sneeze thing. I’m hopeful that we are getting over this part. |
I wish I had a good update but I don’t. Callie’s breathing is not getting any better, she paces the house at night, she peed on herself while she was laying in the living room last night, and she hid under my grandmothers bed. Receptionist from the vet called to check on her and we told her everything and she went and talked to the vet. Vet says breathing should be better by now if it was just from aspirating the medicine and she needs to come back in. She goes in tomorrow and we are hoping that everything minus the breathing is due to a uti and we will be doing a urinalysis. Hopefully they can find out what’s up with the breathing and it’s not something awful. Prayers and good thoughts please. |
I am so sorry to hear that she is not improving more. I will be keeping you, Callie and your "pack" in my thought! Hoping for a straightforward solution, and smoother days ahead soon. (((hugs))) |
Praying for you both.... |
So update from the vet. It looks like Callie has a kidney infection and possibly an infection in her nasal passages. She has been put on an antibiotic that should take care of both. If no change by Monday she needs to come in for blood work. She feels pretty bad, all the techs that know her stopped to say hi and how bad she looked. Don’t judge me for this but on our way home we stopped for a snack and drink and my mom always gets cheeze it’s and she saved 3 for Callie and Callie didn’t want them when she normally loves them. I feel so bad for my baby girl and seeing her like this sucks. Please continue the prayers and good thoughts. |
Callie You are one of my favorite yorkie talk dog lovers. Always willing to help others. I will pray for sweet Callie. Also for you as you go through this tough time. |
My heart goes out to you. It's so hard when our babies are not doing well and we feel so helpless. Praying for you and your whole situation. |
So Callie has been on the antibiotic for 4 days and I am seeing improvement. Its a little slow but it is much better then nothing. Her tail is back all the way up, she just looks better, no potty accidents when laying/sleeping, she is not pacing the house at night anymore, water intake is not as crazy, she played with her siblings for a minute, she is back to picking at the dry food during the day, no big sneezing fits and she is moving around a lot more during the day. So we are holding off on the blood work for now because she had a senior panel at the beginning of the year and presurgery blood work in late September. When she is off of the antibiotics we will test her urine and if it is still showing casts then we will look at doing blood work. After the antibiotics is when I will schedule her appointment with the cardiologist too. Please continue the prayers though until she is all better and we know what is wrong with her heart. |
So happy to hear she’s improving. Prayers up for you both... |
She is being sassy now so I know she is getting better lol |
🙏🙏🙏🙏 for Cali! |
Ok so Callie finished her antibiotics a few days ago. Although she is better then she was I think we are at a stand still and its not getting better anymore. She has her recheck tomorrow and I'm not sure what the next step is. She still sounds very stopped up and snotty in her nose. Some times she is even opening her mouth to breath because her nose is so stopped up and its not panting because her tongue is not out. There are times I can hear her breathing across the room. This is absolutely not in her chest just her nose so I'm not sure whats up. I wanted to clear this up before going to the cardiologist and was going to call and make the cardiologist appointment Tuesday but I don't want her on her back for a sonogram while she has this because the snot kinda drips backwards that way. I really hope my vet can figure this out. Please continue prayers and good thoughts for Callie. Penny will be going with her tomorrow so she can get her DAP vaccine. |
Hoping her re-check goes well. Beau snorts and snores very loudly due to seasonal allergies (year-round in Florida). If he is uncomfortable, we give him children's benedryl, but most of the time he is just fine. It stays in his head, and does not move to his chest...even at 13. We can frequently hear him across the room too, lol. Sending good thoughts for both Callie, and you! (((hugs))) |
Keeping Callie in my thoughts and prayers. |

Prove it to my Callie to be a very unique case....... she has never had a dog that stayed this congested where the antibiotics and benadrly did not help. So it gets more complected. She has referred me to an internist. So that they can pretty much put her under anesthesia and scope her nose and flush it at the same time if necessary. There is a small chance of cancer but because of how it popped up that is not very likely but there could be something in there that shouldn't be. I told her there is no way I can afford the cardiologist and the internist and she said that shes showing no symptoms of a heart issue so the internist is more important right now. She also mentioned the internist could also look at the xrays and give an opinion on her heart. So tomorrow I will be calling to make the appointment with the internist and hope and pray its just something that needs to be flushed out. I'm so stressed right now and worried and everything else. Due to the internist being a simi good distance from me I plan to ask them on the phone if I should fast her before her appointment so if she needs a procedure they can do it then. |
So sorry to hear that there are no clear cut answers yet, and know how stressed you must be! There are lots of us who are following Callie's process, and appreciate the updates. Hope that the internist can see her soon, and that it is all good news. Please try not to let yourself go to the direst possibilities, and we will all pray that a "nose flush" will be all she needs! |
So apparently you can’t get into a specialist for what I consider a more emergent case fast. The one specialist can not get me in until the 13th. I found one local that can get me in Monday! I’m taking Callie to the regular vet tomorrow for blood work and to have that printed out for me, the xrays of her heart and they want copies of everything that has to do with her treatment of the nose. I’m fasting her for her appointment Monday so if possible they can do the scope at that time. I’m so frustrated it’s gone on this long and I just want relief for her. Neither of us is sleeping well at night. |
Praying for your baby to get better soon....:( |
So sorry Taylor! Hope that the procedure can be done on Monday, and that Callie will finally find some relief. (((hugs))) |
Keep is posted! 🙏🙏🙏🙏 for Callie getting some relief! |
So we went to the internist today...... the vet was very worried about her weight loss so they did a total sonogram of her abdomen and all her organs the good news is there is no cancer! Her liver and adrenal glands are slightly larger but that is due to her Cushings. We were going to do that scope of her nose and they always take a biopsy when they do that. Well they went to take her blood pressure and it was way to high like top number should be 120 and hers was 220. They brought her out to me to hold for 15 minutes and then wanted to recheck the blood pressure but there was no change. With the high blood pressure there would have been a higher risk of heavy bleeding from the biopsy site so we need that to go down. They put her on 2 blood pressure medicines as well as a very strong antibiotic. We go back next Monday at 9am and they will take blood pressure and if good they will do the scope. It is also looking like the more natural way of treating her cushings is no longer working so we will need to decided whether to put her on the prescription medicine which will require lots of testing. |
I am so sorry to hear that your challenges seem to keep going on. I was hoping that today's visit would bring Callie the relief she deserves, and bring you peace of mind. I am glad to hear that cancer seems to be off the table! Hang in there, and thanks for keeping us updated. There are many of us out here who are rooting for you! (((hugs))) |
Thanks for the update. Now we wait and pray I guess! |
