I gave her the Cerenia but before we could give her the other she pooped on the carpet...it was soft and brown for the first part and then when she ran to another spot it is soft and bloody.

The vet closed at 1 and no one answered. So I took her to the ER Vet...they said her Pancreatic Levels was elevated and gave her sub q fluids, and Proviable DC to give along with the Metronidazole. The gave her a dose of Metronidazole in there and after awhile she started to drool. They said it's normal???

Took her home monitoring her, will bring her back if she has more blood or is getting worse. Maybe I should have left her to be monitored there? I treated her at home for Pancreatitis the first time...now I'm second guessing.

I just looked back to when I posted here about her panting at night and it was a MONTH ago! She's been in pain all this time and when I took her to her regular vet they didn't think it was anything. I attributed the panting to her chewing Pizzle and some of it being broken off and perhaps stuck. We took her in and they did all the testing and said her enzymes were slightly elevated but didn't advise any treatment.

So she's been suffering for an entire month in pain. No real symptoms other than the panting at night. Eating, sleeping, voiding fine until after the shot when all this started.

I have to call back as I realize they didn't give anything for pain. I can't rember after our first bout with this if they did at our regular vet.

Thanks so much KatysMom and everyone who has posted with help and suggestions. I'm second guessing myself and trying to figure out what is best to do.

Poor pup is definitely having some kind of GI issue.

In that post you said she had IVDD and that was a suspected flair did you never take her to have that checked out?

Yes, I took her to have that checked. Each time I go I remind them of all she has and they didn't think it was that --they gave her the Cernia and the Sug Q on the last visit. We took her after the panting 4/15 and they checked her stomach and back and did an xray for both her stomach/intestine and back and said she seemed find- no palpable pain or tightness in stomach and no pain/flinching response when touching her back. So then the next week we went for the shot...then the ER than the revisit then the call today for the meds and then the ER again.

Is she being treated properly for a GI issue? Is Pancreatitis included in a GI issue?

I don’t have much experience with pancreatitis. What I do know is it’s very painful and most of the time they end up needing to stay hospitalized.

I've not had a pup treated for pancreatitis, but the Hillspet.com website lists it among a group of "gastrointestinal and digestive disorders." See "What are gastrointestinal (GI) and digestive disorders?"

If the vet knows it's very painful...why didn't they give a painkiller OR tell us she had to stay to survive?

it is a antibiotic for the gut basically, it works good for Gi stuff, Chester has used it off and on and has never had any episodes, good luck

I'm not a vet and clearly haven't seen your pup. Your ER may or may not follow the same protocols as mine.

Long story, but I will get to the point...

Over the last year of little Katy's life, we there were a couple of times we made trips to the ER.

In the first round (two nights, back to back), I was just sure I knew more than they did about my pup, and Katy came home with me after a couple of hours. By the third night. I had managed to convince myself that I knew nothing, nothing, nothing. I listened to and followed ALL of their recommendations; Katy stayed in the 02 chamber. (...And I slept on their waiting room sofa for a couple of nights.)

Second "stay" came later, say 10 months later. The ER vets suggested she stay in the oxygen chamber again, she did. They recommended another three day stay, but I authorized only 24-hours. (My vet/ER requires some planning because their machines can vary the 02 mix--allowing them to ween the pup off oxygen.)

So, in total, we had three (3) visits to our ER when I did not follow the direct instructions of the professionals. In each of those three cases they presented and I signed a form clearly stated I was proceeding contrary to their advice. <<<Long story short.

Again, my vet is not your vet, etc., etc., but in my personal experience, the professionals were always very clear about their recommendations.

In my opinion (as a nurse) from what I read in that first post - she was *not* showing an 'adverse reaction' - so they didn't treat it as such. She was showing symptoms of pain, so they gave her Tramadol. Cerenia is anti-nausea and anti-vomiting - given bc vomiting was reported. Both good decisions in my book :thumbup:.

Pancreatitis is most definitely a GI issue, and a very serious one. It be very painful, prolonged, extremely debilitating to the entire body, very difficult to recover from in some cases -- it is a tough one, it truly is.

This is her *second* bout with it then...? If yes, is the vet not recommending a prescription food long term, such as Royal Canin HP...?

Also, I too wonder if the 'pain' from about a month ago wasn't related to IVDD, even though they couldn't elicit a pain response at the vet. My Marcel has IVDD and I get acupuncture for him, which has been just amazing for him. Have you tried that yet for her?
