Xylitol

I have dry mouth, and I use an oral rinse to swish my mouth with. I am not allowed any water for 10 minutes. Chewie came up and started kissing me while I was half asleep a bit ago. She got highly angry dh was rubbing my head so she did what she always does. I know it's 50mg of it per pound, she's 5.3 pounds. I know it was trace amounts, I just need reassurance. I don't want to have her vomit if it's trace amounts like that. I went to make sure itw asn't xylitol and itw as, so I dumped teh bottle and looking for a new brand, but, in the meantime I'm a bit freaked out. I don't keep anything in the home with this and a few other ingredients so I'm really upset with myself.

I called poison control as I was posting this, and I got some information so I'm feeling much more calm. I was told actual liquid amounts and solid amounts that cause issues. I was told half a tea spoon would be a potential issue of liquid, and trace amounts wouldn't cause this. Of course, when they asked me to check on her, and she was already wanting to play at 11m, that made my heart start thumping, but she settled down and hasn't acted any differently. She was already energetic before this happened. It's been dumped, and I'm quite upset that I introduced it into our home. We haven't had grapes, craisens, raisins, Xylitol, garlic or onions, and only chocolate twice since we've brought our girl home. It just goes to show you how deeply entrenched this ingredient is. Any way, typing it out helped, and I'm glad I have the information I have now. It's been added to the fridge book and my kit just in case.

I haven't been on here in two days, and I'm off to read updates.

I'm glad you love your baby so much, but I'm sure trace amounts couldn't be harmful.

I spoke with poison control that night, and considering it only takes half of a teaspoon for them to get very sick, trace amounts are still a lot. This is a highly dangerous ingredient. I thought I knew just how much, but my gosh, I did NOT know the full extent.

I know how you feel. We do the xylitol test on everything we bring into the house. I would never forgive myself if I brought poison into the house and let the girls get into it!
