I need help- immediately Chewie is VERY sick. Now, when I say sick, i don't mean her usual. i mean, she's thrown up a ton of stomach acid (just a few minutes ago) and then had smelly, liquid runs which I've never seen, either. She's on prilosec, and she was given her bully stick that I haven't given her for a long time. Only thing that's new in her life. She does eat her bones. She doesn't just chew, she chews AND eats. She threw up 10 minutes aft er her injection of Cirenia (sp) and was sent home with by mouth pills, but she won't eat a damn thing, so those meds won't go in her mouth or stay down. I asked when her injection would take effect, and was told 30-45 minutes. I need any types of suggestions. Does prilosec do this? This morning she had a bm full of mucous, and I was told with her last bout of gastroenteritis that was a definite sign of inflammation. Husband thinks it's the prilosec. I don't know what the hell i'm doing to do, as she's never thrown up this much. she needs to drink something. anything. |
I'm sorry I don't have suggestions, I just hope she's ok! |
She also, in her last diarrhea a few minuets ago had bright red spots of blood. Now, I know the difference between dark and red blood, and know it's caused by bleeding on rectum or colon. I Know that an intestinal infection can cause it. I don't know what else to do for her until the morning. I'm keeping an eye on her for dehydration, and she's now willingly drinking things. there have been improvements |
Poor Chewie! I would hold the bully sticks for a pup with gastro problems. Bully sticks can be irritants. I've told you about my Teddy having a sensitive system. He is fine if we stick to his very limited diet. The smallest deviation results in diarrhea. |

I have Crohn's like I've stated. Bright red blood has never happened-internal, yes, bright red, no. Does Teddy ever get that, or has he ever had it? It wasn't a lot, but even two spots are enough for me to get upset for her. |
Ava our shiz tzu had diarrhea couple weeks ago. Was really bad with a lot of mucus and bright red blood. I added puppy formula dry food in the bowl for max and Ava never eats dry so thought it was safe...no she ate it! Vet said to give the immonium ad and call back if she starts to vomit. Ava was fine the next day but she's 15 lbs so a lot more fat to live off than a Yorkie. Now Max ate cat food and has it! I hate it when they are sick! |

Bone chews -- if she is swallowing part of the lamb's ear, that could be an irritant. Definitely stay away from pig's ear (the worst for dogs with gastro issues), and I would skip the bully sticks. They all have coatings on them that can be bad for dogs with gastro problems. I would also skip the peanut butter/crushed peanuts. Both peanut butter and carrots (mashed) give my guys tummy problems, even the smallest amounts. Save |

Chewie is adorable  If she continues to have gastro issues though, stick to her Rx food and nothing else. I know it is really hard resisting giving something more fun, but it's better than seeing them sick. I slip up about once a year and give Teddy something (the tiniest piece of something) and he ends up with diarrhea. I thought Teddy could finally handle scrambled egg. Max loves egg, so it is really hard not treating Teddy too. Nope. The tiniest piece of egg sets him off. Now I substitute 3 tiny shreds of Parmesan cheese, which he does okay with. He is a 9 pound boy, and it doesn't take much to make him happy. I understand the urge to give more, but really it is easy to make them happy with tiny, tiny treats. Max loves pasta and I used to give him one whole spaghetti noodle. I have to watch his weight, so I started giving him a small piece of the noodle. He is just as happy. :) |

Elsy is on the rx low fat gastrointestinal diet. She gets really sick if she gets anything else. For treats she gets a tiny amt of the same canned rx food. I've read that you can bake it but I've never done that. She is happy with that as a treat. |
