Chocolate Vet was called, I can't guesstimate very well how much she ate, but I know that some of the chocolate was scraped off the top of an m and m.. and my daughter insists only two cookies were taken. by her, so a third cookie wasn't eaten and both cookies almost completely in tact. I know what to look for, I just need to know how long any signs take to show up? I was told that it was an ounce per pound before it got toxic; and that they doubt any GI issues will come up. Just being cautious. Thank you. I'm seething angry right now, but yelling at my kid won't do any good. My fault for running to the store and leaving hubby in charge I guess. |
You did right calling the vet. ASPCA has a website page dealing with this very thing. Keep us updated please. |

I would guess based on the cookie edge that she kept and the top of the m&m less than a half an ounce; more about half the size of a dime was ingested. The Vet explained to me that a lot of that was probably cookie. It's amazing how potent the smell of a cookie is. I also know that if there was indeed a third cookie, given they caught her in the act, we'd see evidence of crumbs. Chews was sly about this and took a bit of it and ran to the other side of the room where she was caught. She ate it at 10pm and we are letting her rest now, but won't be sleeping until after 2am. Thank you I will keep you updated |
That's why we need always to monitor our dog and always check the area before I leave at house and I always mention to the children at my house not to give them chocolates. Glad you take her to your vet, hope she will recover soon. Keep us updated about her latest situation. |
I'm not exactly sure how long you're technically supposed to wait it out. But I'd assume w/ digestion, it could be anywhere from 30mins up to 3 hrs to watch for symptoms. This thread is always in the library too, btw: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...eight-dog.html |

DH summed it up best. Chews was back talking as I didn't come up when I got back. He told her: Heart attack, Chewbacca. Daddy heart attack. Be good! Head cocked to the side with Chewbacca, Daddy, and good. She gave a sassy bark and dropped a ball by his feet a few seconds later. What are ya gonna do. |
Very scary! I hope Chewie is still doing well today. Max and Teddy have each found chocolate candies on our walks. Teddy had a whole Cadbury egg in his mouth, a small one. He was looking at me smiling with his treasure. I wrestled it out of his mouth and saw that some of the shell had melted on his tongue. He ended up fine, no symptoms. I think there was enough paraffin in the shell to prevent toxicity. |
