| Thumper may need Surgery Thumper has what I would call a hot spot on his behind since early February. I took him to the Vet and he prescribed Genta Spray and said to spray it on him every 12 hours for two weeks. I did that and it seemed to mostly heal. The issue was the hair never grew back and it is just a bald spot the size of a quarter. I took him back on Friday for the Vet to recheck it because it started to slightly bleed the other day and I was concerned that the hair wasn't growing back. He said that with hotspots sometimes that hair does not grow back and he thinks it has healed nicely. He gave me the following options 1. Try the Genta medication in a cream form for 2 weeks to see if that helps (this is the one I chose) 2. He can surgically remove the area and sew back up Thumper and have the area biopsied. He said it could be anything from a benign hot spot to skin cancer, which he doesn't think it is because Thumper shows none of the other signs. My concern is that he said for now to put suntan lotion on the area and avoid the sun. When I asked which SPF to use he said he didn't know which one because he doesn't use Suntan lotion. If I go the jsurgery route I will definitely get a second opinion beforehand. I already found a place in Brooklyn that specialized in Dermatology and if needed will refer me to a specialist after they exam him. I was just looking to see if anyone else had experience with hotspots and the hair not growing back. Thumper doesn't lick the wound or seem to be bothered by it. I think it bothers me more than him.

| Many years back I had 2 dogs that got hot spots, I treated it with an over the counter med. with-in 7 to 10 days the hot spot cleared up, never any bleeding or hair loss. I would definitely get a 2nd opinion with a dermatologist. Sun Tan Lotion!!!!! maybe a sun block lotion the highest SPF. In all honesty I wouldn't know if putting any human sun lotion would be good for a dogs skin. if it were me, I would see a dermatologist.

| Poor Thumper. I agree with Matese: see a dermatologist and ask about the sunblocks lotion. I would be concerned about putting most human sunblocks on dogs.

I agree with you. The two dermatologists I called were booked at least a month to two months in advance so I am going to go to the next bested one and see a vet in Brooklyn that specializes in skin conditions however, they do not have a certified dermatologist. It was recommended to me by a friend. I looked online regarding sun screen and it seems to be safe as long as there is no zinc oxide in it. I got SPF 50. Also Thumper only spends about 30-60 minutes a day walking in the sun outside. I am going to first see how the medication works. Since Thumper does not seem to be in any pain I don't think it is an emergency that I need to get him there tomorrow.

| Human sunscreen is poison to dogs. You need a dog specific sunblock. They are usually spray on. I have one for my chihuahua- he's very bald and has to wear it so he doesn't wind up with cancer.

I just called my vet to discuss it with him waiting for a call back. I went online and saw the ingredients that the pet lotion has vs. the one I bought and they are exactly the same. I didn't put any on him today as it has been raining all day so I will wait to hear what the Vet says. I appreciate all the feedback.

| Just spoke to my Vet. As long as it does not have zinc oxide and I put it only on the wound which is where he cannot lick it he said I am fine.
