Hge Hi there! Newbee here, still not quite sure how to maneuver my way around! I'm Bella & Chase's Mommy.....Bella is 1yr 2mos, Chase is 11mos old =) Thank you very much Vicky, Her first sign of sickness was at about 8:30 a.m NY Day....she must have vomitted 8 times within 45 min...the last two with a pink tint.... I panicked! Was at the emergency vet by 11:45 This is when she had her first bloody stool, I just about died I was at the vet on emergency New Year's Eve with my boy Chase.... No bloody stools or vomit, he was sent home with antibiotics and given a under the skin shot for fluids. I feel lucky to have caught it early....I could not keep her over night for the 48 hrs suggested, they gave her under skin fluids, antibiotics among many other meds (5 in total) and I brought her home, thus far no vomitting,she's keeping down food and her stools not normal yet but not bloody. I have been giving small doses of pedialyte after the blood clot articles I have read. Has anyone had a dog with this that fully recovered without IV treatments? Hi there Sharon! She had an X-ray and and was monitored for several hours at the vet, while I was waiting in the waiting room I started googling her symptoms and she experienced everything identical to symptoms of HGE EVERYTHING... The fast onset with absolutely no warning, order and consistency of everything. When I asked the Dr if this could be HGE he said there's a strong possibility? We got sent home with multiple meds |

This is very serious. We lost our darling Gina to this disease. Five days in the hospital with IV, blood transfusions and abx she died. It cost $5000. Please stay on top of this situation. I wish you the best. There are several posters that have gone through this with their pups are everything turned out well. |

It sounds to me like your pup needs to be hospitalized. There is NO way you can give your pup enough water...or pedialyte...or any liquid to prevent/cure dehydration. Subcutaneous fluids can help, but are not always successful. My suggestion to you is to find a way to do as the vet suggested and leave her there for appropriate treatment! If this is a money issue, perhaps you can apply for Healthcare Financing Credit Card | CareCredit Having one sick pup is expensive enough...but two? After this, I strongly suggest you look into pet insurance. Yorkies can and do become very ill quickly when having GI issues and can die if not treated promptly and correctly! Hope things are improving. If not, I would definitely not leave her alone while going to work. |

If she continues to be sick and you cannot find a way to save her, please consider turning her over to someone who can save her. I don't say that will any malice....it just isn't fair to allow a pup to suffer and die. If she is better that's great. I am not looking at photos...there is more to taking care of them than making them look pretty. Sorry if that offends you...but vet care especially when they are sick is a priority. Coming here and telling us might make you feel better...I guess??? But...I have given you solutions and do hope you will think long and hard. My hope is that she is better...AND that you will then think about health insurance for your babies. |
I've been through this with my Allie. She spent 3 day's at the Vet on IV Fluids and med's and med's to take after coming home for a week. I do watch her really close now. We have no idea what caused it, sometimes you never the cause. The key to this is getting constant IV Fluids. |
How is Bella doing now? I am hopeful that things are better. |
Thank you much for checking in, I would say she is 75-80% thus far... Her X-ray clear, blood work good, no kidney or liver damage, no parasites or bacterial infections, white blood cell count good. Keeping all fluids, food and medication down. Spurts of extreme energy, back to running, playing, barking and giving demands! My only concern is she wants nothing to do with water just her bland diet so I am mixing it in with her food and tube feeding her, I informed our vet and he said this is not alarming since there is no vomitting/diarrhea. Our vet hates me, I won't leave him alone! I am still giving her fluids and watching her every move! Thank you for asking! |
When you say tube feeding...I hope you don't mean putting a tube to her stomach...??? If so, I imagine you know how to do it properly?? She probably is not needing more fluids if you have it in her food. Sometimes we think they need to drink more than they do. I am happy to hear that she sounds like she in on the mend! |
Just wanted to thank everyone who provided input and participated on responding to our thread. Bella & Chase are my children much like your fur babies are yours😊🐶 She is on the mend and pretty darn close to 100% and back to her healthy, happy and playful soul/self🐶😊❤️ |
