Danny had his eye sewn shut My Danny was attacked by a cat this past weekend. He was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer and was given ulcer drops and antibiotics. We went to his follow up appointment earlier this afternoon. The vet told me that she needs to sew Danny's eye shut for a couple of days in hopes of clearing up his eye. She also told me to keep his eye moist using contact solution. Does anyone know if there's a specific brand that I should use? |
I wonder if you can use Refresh tears. My vet says it's ok to use on my Yorkies but I would try to get a hold of the vet and check first. I'm sorry about Danny, I hope his eye will be ok |
I'll call the vet tomorrow morning and ask. Thank you for answering. I just want Danny to feel better and for his eye to heal. |
Me too. Is that Danny in your avatar? He is so cute!! |
Yeah that's him. I fell in love with him when I first met him. |
Oh my goodness, I can see why! I am falling for him too. ;) |
Poor little boy, keeping lil Danny in my prayers for a speedy full recovery. |
Thank you Doodlebug and thank you Matese. |
Wishing him a fast and full recovery. He is a cutie. |

Oh dear, so sorry this needs to be done, but if it gives that eye a chance to heal then so be it. Sending strong healing vibes and hugs! |
Thank you yorkiemini. My baby is eating but he won't drink any water. |
Make some chicken broth. If you don't want to get a whole chicken buy some chic breast and thighs, you can add carrots if you like, NO SALT, NO ONIONS. After chicken is cooked let it cool down, skim off as much grease as you can. Put a couple of table spoons of broth in his water, not to much broth as he will drink the entire bowl and may throw up from over drinking. I would start off with 1/4 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of broth, if he doesn't drink add another tablespoon of broth. Do this several times through out the day and continue for several days. As he improves you can cut back on the broth till he is drinking straight water. Keep a small amount of broth in a jar, the rest you can put in ice cube trays and freeze, add a frozen cube of broth to 1/2 a cup of water, only give 1/4 cup of the water and broth, again, he may drink to much and throw up. |
I will try the chicken broth this evening. Thanks for the tip. |
sending prayers |
How frightening! I hope that the surgery goes well and that the eye is saved. |
Thank you russpilot. |
Thinking of Danny and you today. How are you? Did Danny have his eye opened at the vet? |

Danny had his eye opened this afternoon. The vet said it's still in the process of healing. He does have a scratch on his eye and a tiny ulcer next to it. So we'll be treating the ulcer with eye drops. He has a follow up next Monday. His eye is slowly starting to look much better. His vision is still a bit off. He can see bright lights but nothing else. Hopefully he'll be able to see with his injured eye once it's healed. |
So glad you're finally having some improvement! Diana |
Wishing the best for your baby and sending positive thoughts! |
Thanks Diana. He's not in pain anymore so he's a lot happier. |

Just seeing this thread. So glad that things are better for Danny! It is always scary when eyes are involved.....I have had that third eyelid flap done a couple of times on pups...pretty amazing how well it works! |
