Lilah is sick  Well, we are at the vet. I came home yesterday to five different piles of vomit  needless to say, I was concerned. She had left her food untouched but there were three pees on the pad (a good sign) and she ate avidly the tablespoon of kibble I offered her and was clearly drinking water. Since she wasn't showing any signs of lethargy and was eating and drinking and peeing (no poop) I decided to monitor her overnight. We washed her face and made sure her hair was up and put on a sweater. She threw up two more times right before bed :( I gave her some Pedialyte and made Pedialyte wet food ice cubes. She snuggled me all night and didn't throw up. However, come the morning, her behavior was off. She didn't sit in our laps while we had coffee like she usually does, she laid under the table on a blanket. There was only one pee on the pad. She denied water, wet food, dry food and Pedialyte- no interest in the ice cubes. She began shaking and heaving and threw up two more times- at six thirty this morning obviously we were driving to the vet. Once we were in the car she perked up, was looking out the window and acting pretty normal and excited. We dropped the kids off and I called my boss to tell him i wasn't coming into work. She took a few licks of Pedialyte off of my fingers. The office opened at seven but didn't have a vet in until eight. Lilah and I went on a walk, she was enthusiastic, she peed a real pee and pooped a normal poop (great signs), after the walk she drank a bit of water (I didn't want her to take too much in) but still denied either a single kibble of dry or a spoon tip of wet food. We walked into the clinic to check in early and get her weighed (7:30 by now)- she was down by six whole ounces!!! horror! My fiancé met me in the waiting area, Lilah (wrapped up in her quilt hand made by Donna in our recent gift exchange  ) seemed to be feeling a little better and drank some water, ate two small spoon tip fills of wet food and had a few kicks off my finger of Pedialyte- she has kept this down so far! :) Everyone I have spoken to has had a neurotic run down of every single time my dog has peed in the last 24 hrs, lol. Lilah had a few unusual for her foods two nights ago and my suspect was pancreatitis. The dr agreed this was a possibility, other considerations include toxin exposure or obstruction. Lilahs habits make obstruction unlikely, no appearant mass was detected upon physical examination. A toxin exposure is unlikely as well but of course either of those things are a possibility. At this point Lilah is having her bloodwork processed with an additional test for her electrolyte balance and pancreatitis. Depending on how the electrolyte test goes she may need iv fluids. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, I hope to be updating soon- the noises here are awful and Lilah has whimpered a few times :( really appreciating that quilt right now Donna! |
Our prayers and thoughts are with you. We hope she feels better real soon. |
Thank you Bob, I appreciate your support :) I really like this little girl- aghk! I can hear her crying back there! blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes (she has had elevated liver enzymes previously but after treatment with adenysol they went back down, it is upsetting that they are up again) but the dr said that could be from the vomiting. Her sodium levels were slightly high indicating mild dehydration but dr said it was only slight- we are doing iv fluids to stay in the good zone, that is what she is protesting right now :( pancreatitis test came back negative, which is good but of course that means we still don't know why she is sick. They are considering 'just' gastroenteritis as the rest of her blood work is looking good and her temperature is normal. She is going to receive an anti nausea injection and go on a low fat scrip food for a couple of days. If she vomits while on the 24 hr injection we must come back immediately (or clearly if he condition worsens). If she resumes vomiting after the medicine has worn off we will return as well for further diagnostic testing (either x ray or ultrasound) tomorrow afternoon. Either way, even if everything settles (as I hope it will) after the anti nausea meds, we need to come back in in a couple of weeks to re check those liver values and determine whether the elevation was due to the vomiting or not. |
Waffles says "Get Well Soon little Lilah". |
I am keeping Lilah in my prayers to get well soon. |
I am saying prayers for that sweet baby♥♥♥ |
Sending out prayers for Sweet Lilah that she is feeling better soon. |
Get well soon! |
Poor little girl. Hope she improves and you can find out exactly what her tummy problem is. Best wishes little Lilah |
Praying for Lilah to recover quickly with the meds, and for future test results to bring good news. |
Sending get well good wishes to little lilah. It is so scary when they are sick and can't tell us what hurts. Hope all goes better now. |
Oh No . . my goodness I do hope Lilah feels better soon !! {{HUGS}} from Ruby B and the gang. |
How terrible! How upset you and your family must be. I know when my puppies had a stomach virus a couple weeks ago, I was so upset. I hate when they are sick because dogs are like babies in that they can't tell you where it hurts. I hope Lilah gets better quickly and that the injection works. |
Bless your heart I hope things will quickly be answered as to what's going on with your Lilah. I'm so sorry to hear she's sick may she have a speedy recovery!! |
Hope Lilah is doing better. |
I hope Lilah feels better soon. Please let us know how she does. |
Keeping Lilah in my thoughts and prayers. |
Poor little, precious girl. I hope Lilah gets better very soon. My heart goes out to both of you. |
Thank you all so much for your well wishes- it has been a long day and your words and thoughts are much appreciated. Lilah has not thrown up since the anti nausea medication and is back to eating and drinking (she is eating rc scrip gi low fat for now) she is obviously a bit worn out but for the most part in good spirits, she has peed a couple of times too- I mean, lol, of course I guess since she got the sub Q fluids but man that is a relief! Measures of health ya know? She was such a good girl with me all day and is curled up in my lap right now as I write this. Her injection should wear off before noon tomorrow and if she resumes vomiting we will be going in to request an x ray but at this point gastroenteritis is the diagnosis. I hope a few days of bland food/prescription diet is all that she needs to get back to normal. Thanks for all the support :ghug:  |
dog Make sure she didn't get into anything or lick strange stuff. I know they spray in my neighborhood and if a dog licks that poison they can get sick. I am praying she will be well soon and back to normal. My Spud had a really bad bout of pancreatitis and he is on the Hills Zd diet and he is doing well. I hope Lillah is eating a high quality dog food. |

Wow just seeing this. Praying this is all behind her now and the shot and IV fluids will make her all better. It\'s so scary when they get sick |
Ohhh new foods/treats can do a number on them! Hopefully she will be fine tomorrow! |
The bad news was that she was sick. The good news is that the cause seems to be the least harmful of the possibilities. We are all praying that Lilah is back to her normal happy self VERY soon! :getwellso |
Keeping Lilah in my thoughts and hoping she doesn\'t vomit and keeps eating for you! |
Just seeing this ! . . . How is Lilah is doing today ? I hope she is feeling better. Yes a lot of new and different items can affect them. We are sending good thoughts and puppy kisses to you both ! Xoxo |
Sorry to hear Lilah is feeling ill. Hope she\'s doing better today. |
hope she is doing well today. |
Hoping your baby girl is better....I think Rabbit meat can be a lttle rich for them/their system, and if they are not used to it, it can cause tummy issues.....she may have gotten too much of that and it upset the apple cart! Hoping she will be feeling better "quick as a bunny"!!! |
So happy to hear that lilah is back to feeling good again. |
