Libby is not walking - Help! Libby was fine before we went to bed a few hours ago. I got up a few mins ago and Libby was sitting in the bedroom floor. She tried to walk towards me, but she is dragging her rear legs. She doesnt seem to be in any pain. I then noticed that her stomach is tight. She ate dinner last night. I picked her up and took her outside. She did urinate and started to eat some grass. She is now sitting on my lap alert and awake with no pain. But she does not have use of her rear legs. I am going to take her to the vet in the morning. Any ideas on this? |
I'm sorry to hear she is having problems, and I hope you can get her into a vet soon. I have no ideas, and only a vet can diagnose this. |
Her back is out. Keep her crated & do not let her jump on or off anything. Do you have a Chiropractic Vet near you ? if you can find one who also has a K-Laser that would be good. |
If you go to the K-Laser web site & go to find a provider near you then enter your zip & under categories click on Veterinarian it will bring up several in your area. This just happened to my Moms yorkie 2 wks ago & he was up & running in 2 days after X-ray, adjustment & K-laser. |
There is one about an hour away. I will take her there first thing in the morning. |
I think she has a dislocated knee. Her knee alignment in her left leg is much different than her right. I can move the leg and she does not appear to be in pain. |
If she were mine, she would be an an emergency vet tonight! If this is her back, time is of the essence. |
The vet opens in 3.5 hours. I live in a rural area. I don't have 24 hour emergency services available. I watch a you tube video on a yorkie who has a dislocated hip. Libby has the exact symptoms. When lying on her stomach one leg is shorter than the other when extended. |

Hope all goes well at the vet...please let us know!! |
Just got home from the vet. Took xrays and everything is in place. Two vertebrates in her back are questionable. The doctor thinks she has a pitch nerve. She is on Tramadol, Prednisone, and Sucralfate. She really didnt want to take the Prednisone. Must taste really bad. Doctor wants an update on Monday. Thanks everyone. Its been a long night. |
I hope you managed to get the prednisone in her. Very important! I am sure they told you to keep her quiet... best crated. Hopefully you both can catch some zzz's now. :) Thanks for the update...hope she improves on the meds. |
dog Prayers for your sweet little dog. I hope she heals up soon. I am so sorry this is happening. |
She is in a very small bathroom to limit her movement. I'm at work now, but not much work is being done. I will be home with her over the weekend. Forgot to mention. They gave her an enema for induced bowl movement. That gave her a bit of relief. |
What a terrible night you had! You must be exhausted. You are right; prednisone tastes terrible, both people and dog pred ;) My one dog has problems with her back all the time. A few days of meds and rest and your baby should be fine. I hope your baby heals quickly. |
