Blood in Urine Kiki our 3 year old Yorkie has blood in her urine the last 2 times she has went to potty. She was spayed over 2 years ago. Everything I read says UTI, but the blood in the urine is the only symptom I've noticed. (I did work 12 hrs yesterday though) She doesn't act like she is in pain. Normally she is strictly an inside dog and she uses potty pads but the weekend was so nice she spent several hours out with the family. She enjoyed eating some grass and hiding from me in the wheat field. (It hadn't even been sprayed yet.) I'm calling the vet when they open but I'm open to ideas or things to look for. |
A vet visit is a must, if you could bring a sample of the urine that would be a plus. Please keep us up-dated with the vet report. It is posts like this that can / may help someone else. I am sure what ever it is can be treated quickly with meds. |
UTI......vet needs to see her and give antibiotics if that is indeed what is going on with her. |
we did make a trip to the vet! She does have UTI. they collected a urine sample. It didn't show any signs of crystals so that is good. (Pretty sure crystals are common in stones) They gave her Simplicef tab 50 MG per day with food for 10 days and we will go back for a recheck in 2 weeks.hopefully she can take this medicine since she so sensitive. |
Glad to see it's an easy fix, seeing blood in urine would have scared the heck out of me. when I have to give pills, tablet or capsules I use Greenie Pill Pockets. I buy the capsule size package, if it's a pill or tablet, I cut the greenie in 1/2, Pop in the pill, dogs gets their med, no fuss, it's taste like a treat. Pill giving made easy. If you haven't tried the Greenie pill pocket I suggest to do so, better then stuffing meds in pieces of salty hotdogs or sticky peanut butter or heaven forbid, last resort, stuffing down pups throat  which I had done more times then I care to remember, all before the Greenie Pill Pocket came out. |
Thank you for taking your pup to the vet and giving us the update. I had a foster that was surrendered from the original owner bc she left a UTI untreated, which turned into large multiple bladderstones. She lived like this for two years and the owner said she seemed fine and still plays but other than the blood in her urine seemed fine. Dogs instinctively hide their pain. Imagine living like this for two years. The largest of the stones was like the size of a chicken nugget I kid you not. And this yorkie was like 8 pounds, not huge at all. Thankfully we got her the surgery she needed. |
Unbelievable, how does any one see blood in urine and ignore it, poor little baby, how some of these babies suffer in the hands of some owners. Thank god she got the medical treatment she did. |
So glad you got her in quickly and she is being treated. I wish everybody was so diligent in seeking vet care, and saving their pups from suffering. Thanks for the update too! |
Oh my I can't believe someone would let their pets have blood in the urine for that long. That brings tears to my eyes. Kiki has seemed fine other than blood in her urine but it is a huge red flag! |
You wouldn't believe what some people do, and the amount of denial is ridiculous. |
Do you know how the pill pockets are for sensitive stomachs? Almost everything makes her sick. It was a fight to take the pill this morning. But they didn't want to give her an injection because she is so sensitive. Yearly Vaccines usually keep me off work for about 3 days to monitor her she doesn't react well to them. |
I try to help educate all my friends and family about how to truly take great care of your pet & not feed them junk. Because having Kiki has taught me alot, read everything, act as fast as possible and it is just money you can't take it with you and you can always make more. We have switched to an accredited animal hospital which is alot more money but I want her getting the best care she can get. |
We had a member here that her yorkie didn't do well with vax. The vet said it should get better each year, but she ended up dying from a reaction to the vax. :( Personally I don\'t do yearly vax. |
Oh my! I plan on talking the vet about her vaccines when we go back for her check up. I know she said we have a few options to make it better for both of us. |
Advice getting Kiki to take her pills? It is a huge fight & I just don\'t like it. I\'m kinda scared of the pill pockets |
